Gee, I haven't been here for years.
Well the park is the lungs of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, a small town about 20kms north of Nottingham. A 7 hectare public park with lots of woodland walks, wildlife and designated a site of special scientific interest.
This is where I spent half my childhood. They even have a cafe now! (what is the world coming to?)
Recently spent a pleasant Sunday afternnoon which bought back a few memories....

    Directions:
From Staion Road, main street thru town, turn onto Lindleys Lane and follow signs to carpark

    Attenborough Nature Reserve
To the west of the city the reserve has been set up in the remains of old quarries alongside the River Trent. There are walking and cycle paths throughout the reserve. It's much better than the approach leads you to beleive.

    Nottingham Lace Centre

The Nottingham Lace Centre. According to my guide book, 'Cette belle demeure medievale du XIVeme siecle est riche en dentelles. Un grand choix de styles et de prix vous y attend, et vous pouvez vous essayer a la realisation d'un cousin de dentelle.'

This means, according to my broken French, with help from my Pen Pal Melanie, that the lace centre is worth a visit! On le trouve sur Castle Road!

North of Nottingham is one of these magnificent Abbeys or what remains of it. The park around Newstead Abbey is very nice and invites to take some walks around the lake and through the forest. Speaking about forests: Sherwood Forest (or what remains of it as 80% of it's original size has been cut through the centuries) is little bit further North then Newstead Abbey and can easily be combined with a visit there.

If you like gardening and wandering about gardens looking at plants & flowers, then don't miss a trip to Lea Gardens. Lea Gardens are famous for their Rhodedendrons. Tea rooms and a pub (The Jug & Glass)with a restaurant are very close by. Lea Near Cromford, Matlock, Derbyshire. Well signposted off the A6 at Cromford heading up towards Lea, Crich and Holloway. (The picture here was taken in my garden just after Easter 2001).
