Is it going to rain? by leics Accept that the UK has unpredictable weather and pack clothes which you wear in layers. That way, you won't get caught out when the temparature suddenly plummets or (occasionally) soars! Waterproofs are vital whenever you visit, of course. What to wear in summer? Look here!
You can buy most toiletries easily, at chemists or supermarkets, so there's no need to carry extra supplies.
Memory cards are easy to find in electrical/photography shops and larger supermarkets. Buy films from chemists and some newsagents, but they are much cheaper from supermarkets, who also sell discounted packs of 3 or more. Supermarkets are also cheaper for toiletries and basic medicines (e.g. paracetamol, cough medicine etc).
Make sure your tent is fully waterproof......and that your sleeping bag is a warm one!
The major supermarkets ... Tesco, Sainsbury's, Safeway, Asda, Morrisons........have their own websites so you can google for your nearest branches and opening times. Leave a Comment

...with my trusty umbrella at Edinburgh Castle. by LBKesner My first trip to England showed me the value of my one carry-on suitcase rule. Bring one carry-on, mix and match clothing, and a bottle of Travel Wash. You'll be happy you did when you're walking around London with your luggage or trying to manage your bags as you get on and off a bus or a train.
Bring an umbrella or rain jacket. It WILL rain.
Bring twice the film you think you'll use. Leave a Comment

Photo by: Upper Slaughter by Deus_ultima I always suggest to bring 'American Tourister" type luggage for many reasons: First of all they are semi-rigid, which means that they give just a bit when the punch in the luggage system hit's it, not breaking it apart. Second, it's convenient shape makes it easy to stowe home, in the overhead bins in planes and SPECIALLY, in the bins going in the plane, because believe me, I'm an airport employee, and when the luggage guys need to struggle with your luggage too much, stuff happens... Also, DON'T have them wrapped in plastic like the Air France carrier offers. It just makes the handlind for the ground crew harder and, well.. ;)
This is no joke... this place get's bad weather..prepare for it!! And bring an extra pair of sneakers as well in case the others get wet!!
Try and buy all your film before comming here and devellop them home if your sure of the quality as I found theat the ones I got develloped here were more expensive..and printed on thinner, cheaper paper.
Get "The Romantic Road" guide, published by the Cheltenham Borough Council. It's a GREAT guide to driving trhough all "the good parts" of the Cotwolds. Scenic routes and historical venues, this little book gves you all the info needed for a beautifull road trip! Leave a Comment

by St_Vincent Just like everyone advises to pack comfortable walking shoes for Vegas or a mosquito net for the tropics most people will also tell you to pack and umbrella when travelling to England. Whilst, given our uncertain climate, that is fairly good advice you are probably better off saving the space in your luggage for an extra bottle of duty free and buying one here if you need one. You can buy basic folding umbrellas at most airports and train/bus stations fairly cheaply although such is our desire to get every penny we can out of the poor tourist they will usually be more expensive than those in high street stores. Of course the basic rules of supply and demand apply when buying umbrellas, if it’s raining the price goes up (unlike the umbrella usually).
If you go to one of the “Everything’s a Pound” or bargain shops (in effect they are just cheap tat shops) you can get one very cheap indeed, and provided you don’t intend staying more than a fortnight it should last right up until the moment when you frustratedly hurl the mangled mess of metal and torn plastic into the nearest rubbish bin on your way to the airport.

Ventnor, IoW by tini58de I was quite happy to have warm clothes with me and especially the raincoat came in handy!!! There is a saying in Germany: there is no bad weather, only wrong clothing!!! Leave a Comment

Pack for all weather seriously... I went camping in the middle of June... In the morning it was SO cold.. Windy.. and almost frosty .. and then by the afternoon we were at the beach playing in the sea and actually got sunburnt!! because of the heat. It can differ throughout a day so much. So pack some warm items.. like a coat or a warm jumper - even in the summer. Oh and ALWAYS bring an umbrella... Yes the saying is true.. :)

When coming to England I would strongly recommend you bring warm clothes to protect you from the elements. While our warm summer months are generally June, July and August, it is always good to prepare by throwing a couple of good pairs of jeans into your suitcase as the British summer is somewhat unreliable. In 2007, April was glorious and sunny. In 2008, March saw snow. Should you come armed with winter clothes and find everyone strutting about in shorts and t-shirt, summer clothes tend to be a bit cheaper to buy than winter clothes (if you know the right places to shop)
