Claridge's: Tea for Two

by LBKesner

Oh-so-English! Tea time at Claridge's, where you will get great service while enjoying tea-time munchies--little cakes, scones and cream and strawberry jam, tiny sandwiches, and--of course--tea. Nice music when we were there, too.

Various: Praise be to cod !

by sourbugger

Thre are 10 Fish and chip shops for every McDonalds in the United Kingdom. Finding a good one is however something of a problem as there are no real 'chains' where the quality is uniform. The only exception to this rule is Harry Ramsdens. So, what advice can I give ?1) Always look for places with a queue - the same advice on eating places the world over.2) Avoid places that do sit-down meals as they are trying to do two jobs at once - the exception to this are places like Whitby in Yorkshire where it is basically all they serve.3) Avoid places on the High streets - their customers change too often and there they don't care about them so much.4) Avoid places (in general) with silly puns in their names - e.g Beale's Plaice in Eastenders! Having said that one of my favourite chippies is called "The Codfather"5) Avoid places cover in union jacks (I don't know why this works - but it does)...

the tichfield mill: a fine casual pub

by vrage

this is a pretty basic pub in the town of tichfield, -pictured here is actually "the parsons collar". -the reason for this if you had too many bottles of wine at the "tichfield mill" -you look for this sign the next day about noon time, and as you can see it well qualifies for a "hair of the dog" remedy. the fish and chips here had a great batter which made it among the best I have had.

The Globe: The Globe Restraunt in Alresford

by hollysnails

Has good food and a wonderful view. It was located near the Hotel we stayed at in Alresford called the Swan Hotel. It also has ducks you can feed and a swan or two. It was in close walking distance from our Hotel. It can also be found on the net seach for the Globe restraunt and pub in UK. Everything. England has very differnet food.

Sally Lunn's: Have a bun in Bath

by Phillylawyer_19107

Sally Lunn’s is just around the corner from the tourist information, the cathedral and the Roman Baths. It is set in a lovely quaint alley and the building itself is obviously very old. The restaurant itself is so small that about eight tiny tables fit in there – standing closely together. The food is okay, sandwiches come in the famous Sally Lunn bun. But you don’t really go for the food, you go for the historic atmosphere. After having lunch, you can go downstairs to the basement where one can see the historic kitchen in which Sally Lunn made her famous buns.

Pretty much any Indian place: Go for the Indian food or maybe the "Lamb McRib"

by uberteacher

O.K., "vindaloo" is real hot, so be careful. I like the curries the best. Also go for the saag paneer (spinach with homemade cheese) and the naan breads. Make sure you ask for "lime pickle" and "mango chutney". When I was there, McDonald's had "Lamb McRib" and "Chicken McKorma". Weird, but cool also. Shrimp Karahi or Shrimp Curry are my favorites. The taste is very savory and well-blended.

by cornish

Cheap food to the most elegant.

by emilianarciso

London has many different resteurants and styles. You can find everything there. From your traditional English Pub to a Indian resteraunt. Whatever you choose, be prepaired to wait in a line to get it. Most places are crowded and busy! My favorite meal I had in London was bagel with cream cheese and cucumbers. Sounds silly, I know. but it was from a small Cafe... and it was the cheapest thing they offered. However, even today I long to taste that meal one more time. :) mmmm. it was good.

(restaurant in Tudor style house): Eat in a very old building!

by bkathryn

I don't actually remember the name of the restaurant in which we ate but it was in a Tudor-style house. The floor was on several different levels. It was very interesting and the food was pretty good.

A Hereford Beefstouw: Don't miss the beef!

by bkathryn

Although they had menu items other than beef (such as salmon), their main claim to fame was the meat. They had fillets, t-bones, skewers, other steaks and mixed grill. The meat came with potato. It was very good. I don't have a picture of the restaurant - the picture is of an old building in downtown Leeds, probably not too far from the restaurant.
