The cliff railway was opened in 1892, and was considered to be such a great day for the town that the opening day was declared a public holiday
the two stations are in almost original condition
the railway costs 70 pence for a return trip, there are steps down to the lower part of Bridgenorth if you dont wish to use the cliff railway
Look carefully for the entrance to this station, it is up a little side street near the bridge, there is a sign over the street entrance
of course there is no waiting room, buffet or conveniences ! but you dont have long to wait between trains !
This station may look familiar if you have seen the film "The Railway Children" starring Jenny Agutter.........it was filmed here, it is a pretty station, even on a wet grey afternoon
The original carriages were replaced in the 50`s by these ones, the seats are hard, but you will only be on them for a couple of minutes !
there are two carriages, as one comes down the other ascends
