    The Royal Crescent

    by Tom_Fields Written Jul 2, 2006

Designed by John Wood (1704-1754), this is one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture. Wood was influenced by the Italian Palladian style of architecture, using Ionic-style pillars on his facade. Today, a luxury hotel occupies part of the Royal Crescent. Its web site is given below.

Bath has eight crescents. But the magnificent Royal Crescent is the finest - a world-famous icon. It was designed by John Wood the Younger as a row of 30 lodging houses for the gentry coming to Bath for the season. Royal Crescent was the first crescent of houses to be built in Britain

It's a bit of a walk to Bath's famous Royal Crescent, but definitely worth the effort. The crescent looks great both up close and from the park area below.
