Watch out for the soft sand and mud
The beaches are wonderful but the soft sand and mud flats can be dangerous.
Take care not to go out too far when the tide is out and heed the danger signs and advice from the beach lifeguards.
It shouldn't stop you having fun, but let's keep safe.
Danger on the beach
One evening we decided to visit the sea front at Burnham on Sea. We watched the local lifeboat crew practising launching the boat into the sea. We stood there admiring the crew giving up their time to help others. We thought no more about this until the past couple of weeks when we saw in the news that a number of people had to be rescued by the lifeboat crew after they took their cars on to the local beaches and were caught out by the very fast rising tide in this area. The clue to force of the sea is the local sea defence walls that have been constructed at vast expense.
