The Sanctuary is one of Taunton's more upmarket restaurants, with an evening meal with wine likely to set you back around GBP 25-30 per person. It also has a cheaper lunch menu, and a good wine list. Fortunately its more expensive price means that this is a place for the more discerning diner, as many of Taunton's restaurants cater for the masses, rather than offering a more exclusive selection of dishes. Wines range from GBP 11 (house red and white) to GBP 35 a bottle and there are also some wines available by the glass too. The restaurant is in a back street, and is in a building dating from the middle ages. The restaurant is also entirely non-smoking.
Favorite Dish: The menu changes fairly frequently - my favourite among the dishes that are currently on the menu are the Salmon Fishcakes with Thai Coconut Sauce & Fries, or otherwise they also often have some very good lamb dishes - Taunton is generally quite a good place for fish and lamb, given its proximity to the sea and lakes (for saltwater and freshwater fish) and to Wales (plenty of fine lamb!).
This is my favourite restaurant in Taunton. The food & wine is always excellent, and I'm sure they could charge more as I'm always surprised at how low the tab is at the end.
Favorite Dish: I quite like their veal, even though it is supposed to be a cruel thing to eat, but it's very tasty.
