Berrow Beach
by Jenniflower
We have been to quite a few beaches on the English coast, and have to say, sorry Berrow, but yours is the worst! We were visiting Somerset and stayed at a B&B (a lovely 4 star one) in Berrow. Cheddar and Wells B&Bs were fully booked already. Never mind, we thought we'd stay here. The accommodation was lovely. we unpacked and headed for the beach!Across a bumpy dune, where I got stung by nettle. I was also nursing a recouping sprained ankle, so the dunes werent that welcome to me. I hoped the beah would be worth it!We got there and wer so disappointed. There were cars parked on it... it was like a sandy parking lot. People sat alongside their cars (we found this absurd!), with their dogs on leashes or stuck in the boot.. yes, the boot! The water was like a lake, still, with no waves. The beach sand was dirty brown.Sorry Berrow, but your beach aint nice!

Roads Can be Iced Up
by Bwana_Brown
Although nothing like a Canadian winter, most mornings of this December trip found me having to defrost the sheet of ice that had formed on the car windows overnight. However, the real danger lies in the many narrow and shaded country roads that can also be covered with a thin layer of of what we call 'black ice' in the mornings. This name arises from the fact that the ice layer is so thin that the highway surface still appears to be normal but the road surface is actually very slippery as you suddenly drive onto these sections of highway from the normal sunlit sections. The high hedges along many roads in England make this more likely to happen until the sun gets up in the sky and performs it's magic. Unlike the wider roads in Canada, if you get into a skid on this stuff, there are no shoulders to play with while you try to straighten things out!! On the car radio we heard a few weather...
Bad Pub-The Lighthouse inn, Burnham on Sea, Somers
by traceyslocombe
Avoid this pub at all costs. The food is terrible, service is nearly non-existant and the landlord has an almighty attitude problem. DO NOT take your children into this place, i did and wished I hadn't. Despite checking for a policy regarding the admittance of children into this establishment, the only thing that was visible was the pubs own policy which stated children were allowed into the pub if accompanied by an adult and were not unruly. After deciding it was a child friendly place we went in, this was at appx 8pm. There was a big crowd of us, and we spent well! Come 11pm when it was closing time, the landlord decided children were not supposed to be in there, it was a way of getting us out quick after having had our custom. I tried to confront him about this as he said children were not supposed to be in there after 9.30pm nowhere was this stated and i did ask him why he didn't ask...
