Roast Lamb lunch 3 more images

    5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

During a visit to Suffolk we were exploring the countryside with local friends, and as it drew nearer to lunchtime they suggested we stop in the village of Laxfield for lunch at The King's Head (The Low House).

This is an old-style pub, located in a 15th century thatched cottage. The very cool thing about it is that there is no bar, instead beer is served straight from the kegs located in the 'tap room'.

There is traditional seating inside, including wooden settles near the fire, along with a large garden to the rear with plenty of tables and space for kids to let off some steam.

Favorite Dish: We arrived for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon and were told that there was a bit of a wait for food. Oh well, we ordered some beers and found a nice table out in the garden (it was too stuffy inside). After almost an hours wait we started to get concerned about our meals....and after asking we discovered that they had forgotten to make them....sigh.

Eventually they did arrive and were actually quite enjoyable. Between us we had the Roast Lamb, with the usual trimmings, Rabbit and bacon pie, and the Steak & Ale Pie.

I loved the character of this old pub, but the rude service was not welcomed. Not a bad place to stop by though if you are in the area.
