Just outside the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park there is a street kiosk which sells Fish & Chips. For £4 you can get a scoop of chips, and a peice of battered fish.
This fish took my breath away, it was the largest peice of cod I have ever seen in my life - they literally put the entire fish into the deep fryer! I desperately wanted to take a picture, but there were no batteries on my camera!

Minchella's is a South Shields institution. They've had cafes and ice cream outlets in the town seemingly since Roman times. Various members of the family are involved and you'll see a cafe owned by one of them and an ice cream hut owned by another. This cafe is on Ocean Road and it's a typical old fashioned cafe, with formica tables and retro interior design.
Favorite Dish: The drinks are great, from old fashioned "milky coffee" to new fangled "hot ice cream drinks". Don't ask.
Cakes are great too.

The décor is luxuriously warm with its vibrant colour choice and evokes Indian culture with decorated pieces and ornamental items including a famous painting which has been painted on the back wall surrounded by a fountain and high arched frame. The main restaurant floor is very spacious and looks even more spacious with its high arched ceiling complimented with a gold plated chandelier. As soon as you enter the restaurant you are welcomed into a chic, modern and yet contemporary bar area, which contrasts with the rest of the restaurant décor.
The menu consists of all the classical dishes you would find throughout India and is served alongside more contemporary creations. The menu is vast and has a lot of choice each dish explained clearly.
The company prides itself on its quality of cuisine, the luxurious décor and its emphasis on Customer Service Satisfaction, which has made this restaurant one of the most popular one’s in a short space of time.
It is one of the biggest Indian restaurants in the North East and on the main floor it covers 80 seats and a Private function room, which can seat around 27 people.
The company also has a Takeaway facility and is keen on highlighting this on the website as majority of the companies business derives from this source.
Although the Spice 1 is approximately 2 miles from Ocean Road (Known for its many restaurants on one road), it is still very much affected by competition.
The restaurant is also very Disability friendly, a ramp allowing you to enter the building, very spacious setting to move around and Disabled toilets. The company is very keen on promoting this in the website.
Favorite Dish: Ive tried a few dishes which are so unique, but my favourite has to be the Murgh Zhal Rashun, theres about 20 different sizzling flavours trickling through your mouth at the same time and washes it down with garlic and chilli zest. Im used to hot curries like Vindaloos but the staff recommended I be a bit more adventurous and try out their new dishes and so I did was hugely impressed.
Also try the Podina Zhal Murgh which is hot but not stupidly hot, it has a distinct hot spice which is called Naga Chilli

The star of india like most indian restauarants in south shields are all located on one main road, and has a lunch and evening meal special of usually 3 course or 5 course in the evening.
The setting is pleasant and cosy, with relaxing music and comfortable yet rustic decor in the surrounding.
Service is prompt and efficient even at busy times and curtoues.
The food is cooked to a high standard and fresh and on time. The Korma is a personal favourite and excellent taste.
Highly recommended.
Favorite Dish: 3 Course - Starter/Main with rice/Coffee
Prawn cockail / Cicken korma with rice/ tea

A quick eat of good cooking from the fairground on Ocean Beach is always possible from the great range of hotdog stalls and eateries, available. A personal favorite is the Whats Cooking Kiosk.
Good food at good prices!
