DO NOT SLOW DOWN FOR SCHOOLS

by DAO

Shocking? You don’t know the half of it! Yes. That is a picture of a School Sign you would find along the busy road. It does not tell you to slow down or stop. There are NO signs that tell you to slow down or stop or even caution around a school here. There are NO reduced speed zones in front of any school. There are no flashing lights – nothing. You can drive past the school at any time at the posted speed limit. The lowest is 30mph (48 kph). Many schools are in urbanised areas where cars are parked on both sides of the street making it very hard to see the kids about to cross here and there. It may not say it, but please slow down if you are driving when you see these signs!

HEDGEHOG KILLERS !!!!

by DAO

This is a Reliant Robin. Yes it is a car. Yes it is a car with 3 wheels. Invented in the 1970’s this odd little vehicle has a reputation for killing small, cute, little hedgehogs. Just think about it. With a 4-wheeled car Mr. Hedgehog may actually be passed OVER by the car instead of squished into road pizza by the tyres. Mr. Hedgehog doesn’t stand a chance with these little cars. The front wheel will mash anything the rear tyres don’t manage. Bummer for Mr. Hedgehog.By the way these things can do 80mph (129 kph)! Not necessarily a grand idea on a vehicle that could flip more easily than a normal car. Before you laugh at these odd cars or react in horror at the wildlife killing abilities – consider this:They pay less road tax because of the small engine and they can have air-conditioning and good stereo systems. They also will cost you less to buy than a nice new 4-wheeled car, get VERY...

YOU MUST STOP THE HORROR !

by DAO

THIS TIP IS NOT FOR THE SQUEMISH! Yes, these are pictures of a PUB that has closed. I don’t mean for the night. I mean FOREVER! Oh – the humanity! Over 50 Pubs a year shut here. Just look at these gruesome photos. The opening hours sign doesn’t have any opening hours. Those are solid steel mesh screens up on every door and window. Can this terrible tragedy be stopped? YES! By YOU! Get yourself down to the Pub and order not 1, but 2 drinks. Keep those Pubs in business so that no one ever has to see the tragedy that these photos depict. It’s up to YOU.

'Wild camping'

by leics

Wild camping (that is, setting up a tent or parking a camper van wherever you feel like it) is not actually legal in the UK, although it may be tolerated. Every bit of Britain is owned by some individual or some organisation (quite often the Royal family or the aristocracy!). According to the strict letter of the law permission must be obtained before pitching tent and camping. However, wild camping is usually (only usually) tolerated in the more remote areas, for example more than half a day's walk from an official campsite or other accommodation. You should ask permission if you want to camp anywhere you can see an obvious building e.g. farm. Don't be surprised if the answer is 'no, sorry'. Many farmers do not want people camping on their land/near their livestaock. There are plenty of campsites throughout England, some of which are very reasonably-priced. You don't have to go to large...

BAD BRITISH PLUMBING NO. 3

by DAO

OK! Can anyone see the potential health issue here in the Gent’s toilet? For some reason builders in this country want men to stand as humanly possible to other men when they use the urinal. No cubicle, no small walls, no space. Then just to take the absolute **** they do something like this. I really did not want to wash my hands after using this facility in Doncaster. Bad Builders! Bad!

BAD BRITISH PLUMBING NO. 2

by DAO

I have no doubt that when water taps were first invented they had separate taps like these. Not only are they still made like that here, they are all too common. So what’s the problem? Well one is hot and one is cold. You are supposed to put the plug in the sink and mix the water together to wash you hands. Now where does it all go wrong? Well for starters there are rarely and sink plugs in these in public toilets found in pubs, bars, restaurants, etc. Then there is the idea of actually touching the sink that God knows what has been doing God knows what in. This can only be done if you have that missing plug. This is also a huge waste of water. So what have you got left? That leaves getting your hands scaled by the superheated water or freezing cold hands in winter. That’s because most toilets in the UK are unheated! You could move your hands back in forth in a hellish attempt to get...

BAD BRITISH PLUMBING NO. 1

by DAO

Does this sink look a little small? Of course it does. You really couldn’t actually get full sized adult hands into it. Then it gets worse. Much much worse. You see the twisty water control? Well to get hot water you have to turn the stupid thing ALL THE WAY AROUND. This means that the water comes out with immense pressure, lands inside the stupidly small sink and then ricochets right on to YOU! It of course lands mostly in the area around your crotch as this is the low level they have put the sink at. You now leave the toilet cubicle and return to an open-plan office looking like you just wet yourself. Then they start talking about you….I actually banned my builders from installing these idiotic sinks and taps when I used to oversee the building of retail shops. They couldn’t understand why. I can’t understand why they are still manufactured. They waste water and create a cleaning and...

Expensive travel

by geoffandann

Buses or coaches are cheaper than train travel, but bargains can be had, just needs time to find, always ask for the budget deals.use a daily, weekly travel card for value.Be careful of cancelled trains and avoid rush hours which occur in other places as well as cities.

The worst Chinese takeaway in England.

by sourbugger

I'll tell you that it is located in Hastings and that it is near the Morrison's supermarket. I will say no more about location as I don't want to be sued for libel.I made the following observations which hopefully paint a picture :Menu for an awful Chinese takeway.1. Produce a badly printed menu on tatty cardboard with various crossings out and new prices written in.2. Lay a 30 year old brown carpet with various mysterious stains on it3. Miscalulate any bill and over-charge4. Use the end table for a mountain of paperwork 5. Frame the insurance certificate, TV licence and Basic food safety certificate (probably fake) and mount them on the wall6. Provide Chips as standard rather than rice or anything edible.7. Install formica tables and put dirty tablecloths on them, line the walls with cheap pine boards.8. Make sure the toilet leads (nearly) directly from the kitchen and has no loo roll9....

Monkeys in Safari parks

by sourbugger

England has a number of great stately homes that have tried to raise much needed cash by converting their extensive grounds into Safari parks. Longleat and Woburn are good examples..The Safari park at Longleat (the first in the developed world) features a drive through a number of enclosures. A by-pass is provided for the monkey enclosure, although most seem to risk it.These devilish little primates are very skilled at ripping bits off the passing vehicles. If you have a slippery modern saloon (I especially recommend the 3-series saloon), you may well escape. On makes where and rubber or spare wheels are exposed - then you enter at your own risk....and cost.At one point we had eight monkeys on our car. One tried to make a snatch for the windscreen wipers, but a swift acceleration (forbidden) and emergency brake (forbidden as well) it sorted the little bugger out.As we were leaving the...
