This weekly market is quite old fashioned in its layout and has a town quaintness. It is not sprawling like so many markets are today, is spacious (and not squashed as so many markets are).
The people are friendly, service is good and prices are lowish.
In the middle of it stands the clock tower, built in the Victorian Gothic style. As it was given to the town by an American, it is known to the locals as the American clock tower. Soem people love it, some dislike it.
What to buy: You can but all kinds of things here, from flowers, to clothing, to CDs, toys, to handbags to plants and electrical goods.
It has some craft items but is more a flea market than a craft market.
What to pay: Less expensive than average. Good market prices!

Aswell as the modern side to Startford, you can also find a lot of shops which will be little botiques you expect. Some shops over 200 years old, you can still go and see the shops in full glory of how they used to be a few hundred odd years ago.
if this is more of what you would like to see, they are still around and still unspoilt and neatly looked after. You will impressed with how the shops still look typical to that of a Victorian shop that you may have an idea of.

As much as Stratford has the historical element about the place, there is also a lot modern things about the place too.
The main centre of Stratford has grew a lot in the last 15 odd years with more and more new shops being added to the area.
when you are in Stratford you will find many shops you will find in any British City/Town. So wheiel you self indulge in the history of the man himself, you can also do a bit of retail therapy with a lot of shops to suit anyones needs.

When I saw this shop I nearly did a cartwheel!
Where else will you find an all-year round Christmas shop but outside Shakespeare's birthplace? They get so much human traffic visiting his home year round, it obviously pays well.
What to buy: Anything Christmassy you can imagine!
From trains to cars, to Christmas trees, fairies and gnomes. Then the more traditional nativity scenes etc too.
Tons of tree decorations (we bought three) and bits and pieces. The quality is top class, the staff friendly and helpful. If you are in Stratford-upon-Avon, this is a definate MUST!
Shirley and Robert Newman have a fantastic gem on their hands here... this shop is personable and caters for all kinds of Christmas tastes... it's the kind of shop you want to spend hours in...
What to pay: Tad more expensive as this is a speciality shop.

This has got to be the nicest teddy bear shop I have ever walked into! Even nicer than the one in Bath.
I did buy one, yes, a cute little fella that looks a little old fashioned. He has pride of place in the playroom :)
What to buy: Teddies!!!

You would think that you would be innundated with Shakespeare souvenirs in Stratford and indeed you won't have to look far to find any. But there are a lot of very interesting shops in Stratford as well, from antiques, to books, china, crystal, crafts and even teddy bears!

Henley Street is one of the main shopping areas of the city. In addition to the usual British High Street chains, there are quite a number of Stratford-oriented souvenir shops here.

I really liked this shop. It sells all types of things Shakespearian and while there are some tacky souvenirs there are also many interesting gift ideas.
What to pay: It's reasonably expensive.
