Red Knight by Dabs Not a part of the 2008 Medieval Festival, I think they recycled the Red Knight and turned him into the archer A Medieval Festival is held during the summer months, even on the weekdays. There is a programme of events that you get when you enter that lists the cast of cast of characters roaming the castle grounds giving you an idea of what it was like to live back in the days of knights and castles. I thought these performances would be a little cheesy and geared more towards young folks, but I enjoyed the ones we saw, especially the bowman. The first character we encountered was the Red Knight astride his steed who humorously recounts the life of a knight. We ran across him at the East Front near the entrance at noon and watched his performance, he also does a show at 2. After the performance he leads folks over to the River Island for several more performances, we decided to go the other direction. Leave a Comment Address: Warwick Castle, East Front

Inside St. Mary's by barryg23 The castle is not the only interesting site in Warwick. On the other side of town is St. Mary's Church, build by the second Earl of Warwick in the eary 12th century. A number of the Earls of Warwick and Leicester from medieval times are buried in the church. Don' tmiss the tower, which you can climb, and from where there are fantastic views. Leave a Comment

Peacock Garden by barryg23 After exploring the castle the next stop is the castle garden. The Peacock Garden is one of the finest of these gardens. In addition to the actual peacocks, the garden contains cool shrubbery cut in the form of peacocks. Leave a Comment

Waxwork figures in Warwick Castle by barryg23 The Castle contains many interesting rooms such as a dungeon, torture chamber and rooms outlining the castle's history and describing important events which occured. Some of the history is recreated with model figures - and some of these figures do look quite real! Leave a Comment

Warwick Castle by barryg23 Warwick Castle is the town's most impressive sight and is what most visitor come here to see. There have been fortifications on the castle site for over 1,000 years, and it has built upon and extented by many of the family living there. It is operatred nowadays by Madame Tussaud's who, in addition to providing some great displays and waxworks in the castle rooms, have charged very high entrance fees! Leave a Comment

by Jenniflower Something we thoroughly in Warwick was rowing on the River Avon. 'Avon' means 'river'.. so theoretically we were rowing on the 'River River' :) The rowing and paddle boats are found within about a 5 minute walking distance from the castle itself. You are able to row quite a decent distance up the river, ending up at the castle itself. You go past a golfing green and a park and some absolutely gorgeous homes, whose gardens end up at the river. Fantastic! Leave a Comment Directions: sign posted form the castle and from the main street in Warwick itself

Hi, I am new to this reviewing but felt SO strongly about our day out I wanted to tell EVERYONE! I spent the day at Warwick Castle but booked myself and my family on the Birds of Prey Course (my Dad's 70th). It was SUPERB! I would recommend it to everyone - even if you don't fancy Warwick Castle. Chris O'Donnell, Paul and Johnny from Hawkexperience were real Gentlemen. They treated us like royalty and we learnt SO much whilst having great fun - not every day you have a Bald Eagle on your arm and a 2 course lunch to boot! My 7 year old daughter was with us and hasn't stopped talking about it. We have decided to book another course in October which is run from where they live in Yorkshire (so not too far for us to go). Lots of friends and family want to book too after seeing the pictures. We enjoyed the castle too, it's spectacular, but would 100% recommend that if you're planning a day out at Warwick Castle to book yourself on the Birds of Prey Course. I could go on all day.....The Shepherd family, Lancashi

Warwick Castle by sswagner This castle is on the banks of the Avon River. The same corporation that owns Madame Tussaud's owns the castle. There are some wax figures within the castle walls, but I must admit that this is a good place to bring a family. There are plenty of activities to do in and around the castle for people of all ages. The admission fee is high--likely on par with the Tower of London. The good news is that this is one of the attractions included on the Great Britain Heritage Pass. The grounds are extensive with walkways and gardens. My favorite part of the castle was walking up the ramparts and the towers. They offer great views of Warwick and the surrounding countryside. An ice rink was set up within the castle since it was the holiday season. Outside the walls was an ice slide. There are many chambers to explore such as the Great Hall, the living quarters, the Ghost Tower, and a dungeon. The castle is promoted very well in England and likely draws in some crowds. Fortunately, I found December to be a good time to visit. It is about a 15 minute walk from the train station to the castle, and signs point the way. Leave a Comment

Oaken's House by leics Built in the late 15th century, this is a typical half-timbered house (and the timbers are the correct colour......black and white is a Victorian invention!). It was the home, in the 16th century, of Thomas Oaken (who was a great benefactor of the town) and is now a doll museum. Leave a Comment Address: Castle St, Warwick
