    Bag

    by kayleigh06 Updated Apr 22, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: Always bring a bag out with you to store your cameras, maps, phones and anyhing else that you will bring because
1 u can never rely on the weather and equipment can get water damage
2 u can never be to certain - no matter where you are - people have guts in Birmingham
    3 its safer anyway!

    Maps

    by kayleigh06 Updated Apr 22, 2007

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Miscellaneous: Maps will be needed to get round Birmingham, some places (especially Birmingham city centre) will be quite confusing and as its so busy all the time its best to know where your going before you set out

    Useful things...

    by dark_willow Updated Aug 27, 2006

Luggage and bags: Keep it small if using public transport. There is no central interchange so you will be lugging stuff around quite a lot.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: being britain expect changeable weather. Even if visitng in the summer be sure to pack an umbrella or lightweight rain coat. Winter and early srping (November through April) can be bitterly cold and windy. Summers tend to be more variable and at short notice it can go from being dry and hot (30+ degrees) to cloudy, windy and cold with termperatures dropping to around 18. Sea winds are not a problem since you are so far inland. In summer bring cotton nightclohtes since few hotels have A/C and it can stay quite muggy climate wise if it's been cloudy.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Most things are available easily in the city. Dont bother to bring much unless you are fussy about a paticular brand. Note UK pharmacists are strict about perscription drugs, so be sure to bring a plentiful supply or prescription as youll find it hard or impossible to get more without one. Some pharmacsists will only accept a UK issued one.

Photo Equipment: Film and digital sotrage are easy to come by, photographic chain "Jessops" have branches in the Bullring Centre and near the Catherdral and sell film and offer processing services as well as equipment sales. Boots the Chemist (Bullring Centre, New Street and High Street) also process and sell film and digital media.

The city architecture lends itself to B&W photography so be sure to bring some B&W film as well as a polarising filter if you intend to use colour. A small lightweight zoom lens will help with cropping and gettin close ot architectural details, and cropping out some of the 1950's and 60's rubbish that blights the city scape. Dont carry an expensive/obvious camera bag or flash around any expensive gear.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: The city has limited health and fitness facilities. If you are serious about keeping fit bring a jogging suit and use Cannon Hill or Sutton Park during the morning. In the evenings they are not so safe.

    Don't forget the umbrella...

by TracyG Updated Jul 6, 2003

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: Anything you can carry really, no type of bag is going to be restrictive for you.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Birmingham's climate is similar to elsewhere in the UK, so always bring something warm with you. Bring a smart set of clothes/shoes with you as there are some great places to go out, and a lot of them are pretty smart.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You should have no problems in finding everything that you want here, there are shops at every other turn.

Photo Equipment: Again, film, batteries etc. can be found everywhere, and it is all reasonably priced.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Definately bring an umbrella, a lot of the sights will involve a walk outdoors to get to them, and it is no fun if it is pouring with rain, as it so often is...

Luggage and bags: Some good strong bags and a ruck sack or whatever you can to carry your bits about!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Well as it's always raining in Britain I would advise warm clothes. It's a good idea to bring gloves, scarf and some nice wolly socks!

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Birmingham has hospitals, chemists everything so don't worry about falling ill you will be well taken care of!

Photo Equipment: As with anywhere take a camera it's always nice to actually have something really from happy memories.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Well as it's always freezing make sure you bring a coat especially if you go out!

Luggage and bags: put more time in your luggage to really visit Birmingham... I took this pic again while running to the station and I was said that in spite of its fame of industrial town, it's a lovely one, and it is really for the little I have seen of it...

Luggage and bags: Bring whatever you like, but remember you have to carry it :-)

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Best advice bring the most comfortable shoes you have, you will be doing a lot of walking .
Birmingham is normaly cold in winter, warm in summer, but always, always have an umbrella, it has been known to rain on just one side of the street here and be sunny on the other.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You can buy everything you need in the UK , but make sure you have enough prescription drugs with you to last, if you do not belong to the EU the Medical costs are high and a lot of meds can't be bought over the counter, if you are not sure go to
    http://www.wellbeing.com/atp/index.jsp
they have a lot of info there.

Photo Equipment: The UK can deal with any of your Photographic needs it may be a little more expensive than the US and Canada though.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: There are a few campsite on the outskirts of Birmingham, but you wont really need bug spray in here.

Miscellaneous: Just bring lots of money, Birminhgam isn't as expensive as London, but there is a lot you can do for free.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: There are many different shops in Birmingham where you can find everything that you forgot to take with you. Weather in Birmingham does not differ a lot from other city in British Midlands.

Photo Equipment: Well, let's admit that there are more picturesque cities in the world. But anyway, if you take too few films with you, it is always possible to buy a new one anywhere in Birmingham!
