by Imbi The Stratford on Avon Butterfly Farm is the largest in Europe, and lies just a half hours drive (or less) from Birmingham. It is home to many different species, including tropical ones. This makes it particularly attractive in winter - the chance to wander through a tropical rainforest and watch beautiful butterflies in January is too good to miss. thanks to www.erasmusdarwin.org/ house.htm by Imbi it is few miles away from city in Lichfield. The name of Erasmus Darwin is not as famous as that of his grandson, Charles. But Erasmus had his own theories of evolution and was friends with such great men as Boulton and Watt, whose statues stand in Broad Street in Birmingham city centre. Giraffes at WM Safari Park by eddilowe 20 miles from Birmingham is the West Midlands Safari Park. The park covers about 200 acres and comprises safari park, zoo and amusement area. The admission price is £7.99 each (whether adults or children) which includes a free return visit for the same amount of passengers in the same car. This return visit MUST be taken in the same season before the park closes for winter (I found this very useful as I accidentally deleted all the pictures on my digital camera on the evening of my visit and went back again the next day to take some more). I think you can drive round the 4-mile animal drive as many times as you like. The admission price includes all areas of the park excluding the rides. You have to buy seperate multi-ride wristbands for these (height restricted £7.25, unrestricted £8.75). You can also buy seperate tickets for the rides if you only wanted to go on one or two. I have to say that when I last visited in 2003 the amusement park wasn't up to much - it was OK for younger children but with the competition between amusement parks nowadays the rides weren't very exciting and some areas were a bit rundown. It seems they have new rides and attractions this year so it seems like they are trying to do a bit more with this part of the park. I really enjoyed the animals so that part is definitely worth a visit. There are areas where you can pet smaller animals and you can buy boxes of feed as you come in for some of the animals as you drive round. The best advice i can give regarding the amusement park is to have a wander around when you get there and see what you think. You can't take dogs into the safari park for obvious reasons but I notice on their website that they have a kennel facility. This is the park visitor leaflet for 2005 which gives all the info you need. by gabriellefox Dudley Castle was founded in 1071, and underwent many changes over the following centuries. In 1530 it was rebuilt as a Renaissance palace, by John Dudley, During the Civil War the Castle was a Royalist stronghold, but surrendered in 1645 following the capture of Charles I. The living accommodation was used by the Earls of Dudley until 1750 when it was gutted by a huge fire which burnt for three days. The Castle Keeper gives regular costumed talks about the history of the site and the people who lived there, and you can step back in time in the Visitor Centre to find out what really went on in the house and grounds. by aiwanec It might be not activity to do or event to watch, but something that you must see. It is Warwick Castle. I wont write the historical story about it, but maybe how beautiful is the place and surrounding scenes. The time you spend there will take you ages back to live moment that you haven't dream of in your life. It is just wishing like you have lived in that era. If you are the type that enjoys the country sites, and the cold wet weathere, where green land and gray cloudy sky.... don't miss it Leave a Comment

by Pete_Barnett Take a trip on the Severn Valley Steam Railway. The Severn Valley Railway is 16 miles of superb views of the River Severn between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth. The coaches are hauled by a variety of old steam engines, and you can make stops at the stations along the route, such as Bewdley, a Georgian town with nearby Safari Park. On some days you can take lunch in the renovated Edwardian Dining Car. The return journey should cost no more than £10. Leave a Comment Directions: Take a train from Birmingham Snow Hill station to Kidderminster (30 minutes). The Severn Valley station is alongside. There is also a regular bus service.
