If you fancy a trip to the beach on a nice day, West Wittering beach is the biggest and best beach in the area.
From the A27 on the south side of Chichester take the A286 signed "THE WITTERINGS" and continue for about 5 miles. At the small roundabout in Birdham village, take the right fork following the brown tourist signs to "West Wittering Beach". After 2 miles you will enter West Wittering village.
Parking is expensive (up to £7 in peak season) so it is only really worth it to go early for the day or after 3pm when it gets cheaper (£5 in peak season), and being so popular it's advisable to leave for the beach early as the one road leading there gets very busy on hot days. The huge carpark is also popular for families to have picnics by the car, and there is a nice area to play ball or buy snacks from the cafe.
Do not go on a Saturday!
Can you believe a tourist attraction that does not open on a Sunday!
We followed a long line of traffic into the town centre, paid for a few hours parking and were amazed how easy it was No wonder: however after posing outside the closed doors, my daughter was quite relieved that we were not going to drag her round!
