Haworth Village situated just outside of Bradford is the birthplace of the Bronte's, authors of famous literary works such as Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. If you are fan of such writings then this place will have you smiling as you see exactly where some of the plots and storylines! Like York, the village is preserved in its natural olde English glory and you get an amazing feel as you walk through the village...a great place to go with family or even better for a r o m a n t i c break. List of things to do and see Keith and Worth Valley Railway - authentic steam railway station which was a setting for many films including 'Railway Children'. Yes you may have heard of the Moor Murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady who killed children in the early 50's and buried them here in the moors...... But don't let that put you off visiting the moors and experiencing the grand openess. Bradford in general is very hilly and the moors are the peak of this feature. I love this place its so exhilarating! I realised that you don't have to be some super athlete, I was glad to have worn good shoes and warm clothes, my cousin and I talked most of the way and stopped on occasions to sit on the big grassy bumps and enjoy the view and take pictures. Once upon a time Bradford was reknown for its wool and textile industry and this is a resource that funded the war and the gruelling work of Indo-asian immigrants in the 50's. Quote from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte the bronte village where her plots were based: "During January, February, and part of March, the deep snows, and, after their melting, the almost impassable roads, prevented our stirring beyond the garden walls, except to go to church; but within these limits we had to pass an hour every day in the open air. Our clothing was insufficient to protect us from the severe cold: we had no boots, the snow got into our shoes and melted there: our ungloved hands became numbed and covered with chilblains, as were our feet: I remember well the distracting irritation I endured from this cause every evening, when my feet inflamed; and the torture of thrusting the swelled, raw, and stiff toes into my shoes in the morning. Then the scanty supply of food was distressing: with the keen appetites of growing children, we had scarcely sufficient to keep alive a delicate invalid. From this deficiency of nourishment resulted an abuse, which pressed hardly on the younger pupils: whenever the famished great girls had an opportunity, they would coax or menace the little ones out of their portion. Many a time I have shared between two claimants the precious morsel of brown bread distributed at tea-time; and after relinquishing to a third half the contents of my mug of coffee, I have swallowed the remainder with an accompaniment of secret tears, forced from me by the exigency of hunger. Sundays were dreary days in that wintry season. We had to walk two miles to Brocklebridge Church, where our patron officiated. We set out cold, we arrived at church colder: during the morning service we became almost paralysed. It was too far to return to dinner, and an allowance of cold meat and bread, in the same penurious proportion observed in our ordinary meals, was served round between the services." Leave a Comment

This theatre is the only Theatre in the city centre. It is named after the famous mosque and hence the gorgeous Decor. At night it is all lit up. A scottish visitor asked me "Who pays for the electric bill for all that?" I went to see Broadway in the summer. It was a wonderful performance! Christmas at the Alhambra is even better with loads of Celebrity pantomimes! Inside is a well decorated eating and drinking facility and the Stage area is said to be centuries old with the walls and ceiling covered in huge historic, possibly Victorian/Edwardian paintings and wooden beams ceilings. if you have the misfortune of getting stuck in the Bradford Rain and need to entertain the kids somewhere dry then this is a lovely place to take them. Huge Ball Pools and climbing frames. No need to book - unless you are having a private children's party. For more information on this and lots of pictures then go to my on 'Eid at Alphabet Zoo' Take some snacks for the kids and drinks as they tend to tire themselves out and get thirsty and the food and drink is a bit pricy there. Also do Special Needs, play only, Special Occasion and discounts on group bookings. special events throughout the year such as HaloWeEn Christmas.. Easter and school holiday specials. "An ordinary and matter-of-fact letter from a schoolgirl to her friend, one might say, apart from the rather startling reference to fairies. But, as both Frances and her cousin Elsie Wright have since pointed out (they are now grandmothers), they were not particularly surprised by seeing fairies; they seemed a natural part of the rural countryside around the `beck' (stream) at the bottom of the long garden in Cottingley, near Bradford, in West Yorkshire. The photograph enclosed by Frances–the famous one, which has since been reproduced thousands of times around the world, albeit in an improved and sharpened version–showed a little girl staring firmly at a camera, since fairies were frequently to be seen, but she herself was photographed not so often! On the back of the snap was scrawled in untidy schoolgirl writing: Elsie had borrowed her father's camera–a Midg quarter-plate–one Saturday afternoon in July 1917 in order to take Frances's photo and cheer her up (for her cousin had fallen in the beck and been scolded for wetting her clothes). They were away for about half an hour and Mr. Wright developed the plate later in the afternoon. He was surprised to see strange white shapes coming up, imagining them to be first birds and then sandwich papers left lying around; in vain Elsie behind him in the dark-room said they were fairies. In August it was Frances who had the camera, when she and Elsie scaled the sides of the beck and went up to the old oaks. There she took a photograph of Elsie with a gnome. The print was under-exposed and unclear, as might be expected when taken by a young lady rising 10 years old. The plate was again developed by Elsie's father, Arthur, who suspected that the girls had been playing tricks and refused to lend his camera to them any more." [Taken from http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/cooper.htm ] For a long long time this photo was believed to be GENUINE!! Leave a Comment Directions: Ever heard of Cottingley Fairies? Out with my boss we came across some Japanese tourists asking about them. Because I am petite my boss felt it was appropriate to inform them that I was one of the fairies!

Before the activities of Halloween crept in I took a drive to Haworth walking and photographing along the cobbled streets and unusually pleasant October early evening. Children were stood outside of the centuries old shops admiring the Halloween display. Although there was much of the spleandour of the Bronte era, I couldn't help feeling a little disapointed. It seems the area has deterioted in manner that alot of 'modernisation' has taken place. Possibly renovation due to wear and tear but I still feel the natural heritage should had been preserved. However! having a look at my expertise *pompous* in photograpy I have mangaged to capture the glorious views. Take a look at the window display for Halloween and what about the winding twirling roads and the windmill and hills in the background of the graveyard picture? Leave a Comment
