The bridge over the River Wharfe at Otley is becoming a lovers lock bridge. Popular in different parts of Europe (I have seen them in Holland, Poland, Russia, Hungary and Paris) A couple will write their names or initials on a lock, attach it to the bridge, kiss each other then throw the key into the river. This will mean they are to stay together forever.

The Wharfedale press printing machine revolutionised the printing industry. The first machine was built in 1865 and it became so popular that other firms throughout the country copied the principle on which it was built.
A statue of the original Wharfedale press stands by the River Wharfe.
One of the original presses is at The Otley Museum.

The River Wharfe at Otley has lovely riverside parks and seating area's, great for sitting with a coffee or a picnic and watching the birdlife.
The River Wharfe runs through Otley. The source of the river is at Beckermonds in the Yorkshire Dales national park, it travels for 97 km before joining the River Ouse at Cawood. The river follows some of the most beautiful country in the North of England as it passes through:- Kettlewell, Garssington, Bolton Abbey, Ilkley, Burley in Wharfedale, Wetherby and Tadcaster.
