    I Don't Remember: Souvenier Shops

I walked up the village street and into a couple of the shops. I didn't buy anything, and don't remember the names of the shops :-(

It was interesting just to walk up the street.

The NT website says that the village has the "Red Lion Inn, the village Post Office, a restaurant and shops retailing crafts, books and souvenirs."

What to buy: We got ice cream from the van in the parking lot.

THE HENGE SHOP: STAMPS, SWEETS AND STANDING STONE STUFF!

PICTURE POSTCARD STUFF FROM A PLACE THAT SELLS 'EM

A delightful building, originally three mediaeval cottages and at one point the post office and local fire station it is now a gift and sweet shop come village store. Unless you are buying antiques (there is a purveyor of 'old bits' across the main road) or quaffing ale in the local hostelry this is the place to stock up on sweeties, postcards and monolith related gifts. The ice creams are reasonably priced (so you don't have to use the ice-cream van that haunts the nearby public car park) and there are a good smattering of other essential bits and pieces to restock the car with ie more sweets etc The gift shop is also worth a gander and those fearful of tackiness will find it more than normally bearable to enter. Undoubtedly worth popping in for a peek! (I believe they also offer guided tours around the stone circles)

What to buy: Ah, the age old trade off between things spiritual and matters financial! Let your unquestionable good taste and wallet be your guide...

What to pay: How many choc ices can you consume? How many postcards can you send? How many hand carved bowls can your sideboard withstand?

The Henge Shop: The least tacky gift shop I know

Normally I give gift shops a wide berth, but this one is great.

As well as some very interesting and useful books, maps and so forth, there is a good range of crafts, woollen goods, pewter and silver jewellery and ceramics.
