1940's Prefab

A 1940's Prefab building built after the Second World War to quickly and cheaply rehome those made homeless by the German bombs. They consisted of a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen/dining room and a bathroom. An unusual feature of the design was that the bathroom and kitchen were back to back so that all the pipes were hidden behind one wall.

In this Prefab there were lots of things that I remember my Grandparents having, from bread bins to Ovaltine mugs, I bet they would be worth something if I still had them.

Avoncroft Museum Of Historic Buildings is a little gem of a museum set in the Worcestershire countryside.

The museum brings together historic buildings from around the country but mainly the Midlands in a bid to save and preserve them for prosperity.

There are over 25 buildings ranging from agricultural to domestic buildings. My particular favourite is the 1940`s Prefab, as alot of the contents I remember from my childhood at my Grandparents houses.

Another of my favourite exhibitions is the National Telephone Kiosk Collection where you can see a wide range of telephone boxes from the early years right up to the present day, even "Doctor Who`s Tardis" is there.

As with a lot of the exhibits there is someone on hand to tell you how things work and a little bit of the history of them, you can even see a working demostration of them.

The buildings are fairly widely spread out so you can have a nice stroll between each one and take uncluttered photographs of them.

Near to the entrance/exit you can find a nice little gift shop where you can buy a good range of products from books to posters and other gifts. There is also a small cafe where you can buy drinks and snacks at a reasonable price.

Entrance to the museum is £6.00 for adults and the guide book costs £3.00.
