There is one long distance footpath going through the town. This is "The Severn Way" and is waymarked along the whole of its length. It goes, as you would expect with a name like that, alongside the River Severn from its source in Mid Wales to the Bristol Channel where the river enters the sea. It is the longest riverside walk in Britain (it is 356km, or 221 miles long). It goes along the west bank of the river through the town. It comes from Bewdley in the north and goes on to Worcester in the south.

    Equipment: Guidebook. Price: GBP6.95
    Mail order price: GBP7.85
Outlets: Can be purchased from Worcester Woods Countryside Centre, Waseley Hills Country Park, all good book shops and direct via mail order from the Countryside Service. Address: Assistant Countryside Admin and Finance Officer (Access Team),
    Environmental Services,
    Worcestershire County Council,
    PO Box 373,
    County Hall,

    Stourport Circular Walk

by Galahad Updated Oct 19, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Canal, woods, river walk

Starting in the centre of Stourport on the riverside. A 10.6km, or 6.5mile, waymarked circular walk around Stourport on Severn, managed in partnership with Wyre Forest District Council. Give yourself up to 4 hours to complete the walk. Out on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal, across a golf course (established in 1993. Mind the balls!!!), into the woods and Nature Reserve down to the River Severn before returning to Stourport. Part of the route is along "The Severn Way" and part crosses Burlish Nature Reserve (see separate VT entries for both these on this site).
A free leaflet is available. Click on pic to see it in full

Equipment: The leaflet is not easy to find, although occasionally a copy can be found at Stourport Library. Stout walking boots recommended.

    Stourport Rowing Regatta

by Galahad Written Aug 9, 2003

On the 2nd weekend in August is the annual rowing regatta held on the River Severn. It is based on the rowing club headquarters on the west bank of the river. Unless you are a participant it is best viewed off the bridge or from the Riverside Meadows.
