Things to Do

A lovely park

A lovely park, Keswick

sabsi Says:  My favourite spot in Keswick was a little park right at the lake (Does it have a name? Anyway, it's near Keswick boat landings and the theatre, next to Hope Park). We came here in the evenings to watch the sheep, the fell fires and a beautiful sunset here. A very peaceful,...

Hope Park

Hope Park, Keswick

sabsi Says:  Between the town centre and the lake there's Hope Park - a park with some leisure activities such as Pitch & Putt and Crazy Golf. There's also some kind of Botanical Gardens in here so Hope park is a nice place for a walk after a long day.

Castlerigg Stone Circle

Castlerigg Stone Circle, Keswick

sabsi Says:  A mysterious place! Castlerigg stone circle is located on a hill near Keswick. There's 38 stones in a circle here - probably built around 3000 BC. The stones are rather small though so this stone circle is not as impressive as the ones in Scotland but it still is a nice...

Friars Crag

Friars Crag, Keswick

sabsi Says:  A scenic view point not far from Keswick at Lake Derwentwater. We walked here one evening and the views from here were fantastic. The only problem is that there is a queue for the only bench with a view. Seems to be one of the most popular benches in England ;)

The Teapottery

The Teapottery, Keswick

Roeffie Says:  The TeapotteryAt the Teapottery they make teapots of every kind imaginable- except ordinary ones. For nearly 20 years their witty and original designs have been sought ou by collectors throughout the world and featured in films, on TV and in countless magazines.The...

Eden Green Guest House: A friendly B&B with great breakfasts

Eden Green Guest House: A friendly B&B with great breakfasts, Keswick

sabsi Says:  A friendly B&B right in the middle of Keswick in a street full of B&Bs. My room was small (especially the bath), hot but comfortable. And I finally had my own telly to watch my beloved English TV comedy shows :) Great breakfasts! You get to choose exactly what you want - so...

Four in Hand: Pub Food

Four in Hand: Pub Food, Keswick

sabsi Says:  A pub in Keswick Town Centre with nice food at reasonable prices. I had an English classic here: Lasagne and Chips. In Italy the chef would have been shot but it's quite common to mix pasta and chips in Britain.

Old Keswickian: The local chipper

Old Keswickian: The local chipper, Keswick

sabsi Says:  A fish and chip shop right in the middle of Keswick. Fish & Chips was very tasty here. And the portions are huge. There's seating upstairs but most people seem to take away their food and eat it on a bench at the lake! The smell of vinegar there was unbelieveable! If you want...

Nightlife

The Pack Horse Inn: Pub Quiz nights

The Pack Horse Inn: Pub Quiz nights, Keswick

sabsi Says:  After a year without a pub quiz I was really dying for a quiz evening again. Luckily I could convince Steve and Susan to go to a quiz night in Keswick. I loved it. We didn't have a chance to win, however, because Steve's WAP phone gave us the wrong answers (serves us right...

Shopping

All over Keswick: Outdoor Shop Paradise

All over Keswick: Outdoor Shop Paradise, Keswick

sabsi Says:  Every second shop in Keswick is an outdoor shop. So if you were thinking of buying new hiking boots or crampons - this is the place for you. There are more outdoor shops here than in the most popular hiking resorts in Switzerland, it's unbelieveable! Everything from boots...

Local Customs

NEW YEAR'S EVE CUSTOMS

NEW YEAR'S EVE CUSTOMS, Keswick

sabsi Says:  There's a strange new year's eve custom in Keswick. Lots of people (obviously young, drunk and local) climb the flagpole on the main square and risk starting the new year with several broken limbs because of falling down. This year there weren't any accidents but one guy...

Fish & Chips and Outdoor Shops: Keswick

For two nights we stayed in Keswick, one of the main tourist towns in Lake District. It's a pleasant little town and a perfect base for trips around the Lakes I think.

Lyzzick Hall

Lyzzick Hall is a fabulous bed and breakfast about two miles outside of Keswick. The view is breathtaking and the food was incredible! I would highly recommend a stay or dinner visit at Lyzzick Hall!
