Kinross Things to Do

  • Loch Leven Castle

Loch Leven castle is practically a ruin, but situated in a picturesque location on an island in Loch Leven. This castle is most famous for being the castle where Mary Queen of Scots escaped from with the aid of the boatman. It is reasonably priced, £3.50 adult which includes the cost of the ferry across. It takes about an hour to explore the castle and walk around the small island. There is enought structure left to wander through a couple of rooms and a tower - my children really enjoyed scrabbling around pretending they were men at arms!. The guide book gives a history of the castle and information boards are also there to guide you. For the photographer the castle gives many photo opportunities being surrounded by water and the Lomond hills in the background.
