Eyesore or sculpture?
The Fens have a reputation for being full of eccentric farmers, (or should that be egocentric?
I.e; they're hyper-critical of others with ugly property, but their own farmyards more resemble scrap heaps...)
As with the man with the plank in his eye, attempting to remove the speck from his brother's, these rustic characters seem oblivious to how unkempt their own plots have become over the years...
Lakenheath/area has some of the best, (or should that be worst?), offenders, & all you have to do is drive or ride around the local lanes to spot them...
It's good fun to do, if you find piled rusty metal, that once was a tractor, combine harvester, or some other agricultural implement, rotting in an overgrown barnyard, an amusing curiosity...
The best plots not only display rustic implements in advanced states of decay, but also lorries, cars, & even double decker buses!
...& who said the countryside has to be a place of unspoilt beauty?
A bit of manmade ugliness here & there, provokes thought, if not a wry smile - & who is to condemn these combined acres of corroding steel & iron?
If Damien Hurst created a similar mess, it'd be branded "ART" & worth a fortune, ( though considering scrap metal is worth a fortune, why these ever self-pitiful, supposedly strapped for cash farmers, don't load it onto a trailer & take to the nearest scrap dealer, is a true mystery of the rural Fens...)
Eyesore or sculpture - you be the judge?

Park and watch the take offs and landings
Right down the road in Lakenheath you can see people always parked with their big lens taking pictures of the F 15's roaring round the sky and doing touch and gos. It's fun to see them so close right over head.
