This is where my education began!
To this day i still think it is a building that would be better suited to a horror movie.....espically when seen at night time! ha ha ha!
This is actually 1 of 2 primary schools in the village. Both are known to locals as "The Wee School" and "The Big School". The Wee shool is where locals go between nursery and Primary 3. The Big School (in the photograph) is where they then move to for Primaries 4 through to 7. After which they generally move on to a High School based in Johnstone.
A lot of memories, both good and bad from here, but i seem to have turned out OK, so i guess I cannot have to many complaints :-)

Lochwinnoch Village Center is known to the locals simply as "The Cross". I am not sure of the exact reason why, but my guess is that it is because of the cross road junction that you can see in the picture.
It is where High Street, Main Street, Church Street and Calder Street join.
This is the centre of activity, and it is hard for locals to walk through here without bumping into someone they know.
Lined with a Bank, a SPAR store, a local community Centre, and a little Coffe Shop, you basically have to drive through the Cross to get anywhere in Lochwinnoch.
During the summer it is lovely. It is lined with Flowers and is a great place to see some of the older characters that stay in the village.
Probably a place to avoid late on a saturday night when the local Neds (under age drinkers) are slowly making their way to the chip shop.
Other than that, if you visit Lochwinnoch you cannot avoid the Cross. It is the centre of the community!

Yes! For the small size of my home village, it is the proud owner of Struthers Lemonde Factory....producer of Kyrstal Clear Soft Drinks.
The Krystal Clear Soft drink range includes, coke, Irn-Bru, and lemonade to name but a few, and can be found in local shops all over Scotland! Its one of Lochwinnochs claims to fame!
My Grandfather used to work in here, so we were given the full factory tour on several occasions, not to mention the free "tasters" to take home!
From what i know, they still offer family tours, although nowadays the concentrate more on their Still and Sparkling water products than their fizzy juice range!

Auld Simon can be found at the very end of Lochwinnoch High Street, at the bottom of Johnshill Road.
"Auld Simon", as most refer to it, is the front gable of St. Winnoch Church, and unfotunately the only part of St Winnoch church still standing. It is thought to have been built in 1729.
Unless you visit it on the brightest of days, the grounds of Auld Simon give off a very eerie feeling!
A stunning building, with a very old grave yard in its grounds......Auld Simon is worth a little visit.

The local bird reserve is an excellent place for the family.
Located to the right as you enter Lochwinnoch after turning onto the A760 road.
The centre has a visitor Centre, trails and hiding huts where you can watch the large variety of birds and other wid life around you. The centre also has a viewing tower, where, using the telescopes, you can see not only the wildlife within the grounds, you can also see Castle Semple Loch, and parts of the Village itself!
The RSPB centre also has a shop for souveniers, as well as tables for picnics and of course the usual parking and toileting facilites.

Castle Semple Loch is Lochwinnochs Loch. We are also fortunate enough to have 2 other stunning lochs close by: Barr Loch and Kilbirnie Loch.
I used to go to Castle Semple Loch a lot when i was younger. You can hire canoes, and boats and go pretty much anywhere on the Loch that your heart desires.
The walk along the edge of the Loch is also worth while. My grandfather used to take us walks along here all the time, and it is still as peaceful now as it was all those years ago.
You will also see a variety of Ducks and Swans, all of whom have been given bread by the public for so long that you would be a brave person to go without taking a loaf with you! ha ha ha!
The Loch is part of the wider "Clyde Muirsheil Country park"

Yes, this is where i grew up with my family for the first 23 years of my life, before moving along the road to Renfrew with Emma in March 2002. Lochwinnoch is a lovely little village around 20 miles...
