I was very amazed when I went to the pubs in the very cold winter nights. I can see gals wearing tubes, or sleeveless clothings, with short dresses and stilettos on the streets running from pub to pub. I would be in my thick, heavy jackets in the cold of almost zero degC. Do they prefer to look pretty than keeping themselves warm???

In the midlands, the word "medoc" is used quite frequently. For example, when you go to a fish and chips shop, you can say "Cheers medoc" or "Thank you medoc". I would say this is the street language and this word is popular in the midlands only.

There are many banks where you can open an account. But different banks have different requirements. The more popular ones among foreign students are HSBC, Natwest, Barclays.
I find opening a bank account in UK is very troublesome and difficult even though you have loads of money to deposit. You will need the relevant documents especially the letter from the University stating how long you will be in UK.
Loughborough has the reputation of having the most consumption of alcohol in the whole country statistically! It is a small University town, but alcohol consumption is number 1 here! Amazing! There's even a promotion in the Student's Union every Wednesday night of "A pint for a pound". Very good deal.
