Decon Brodies: Wall-to-Wall People

by Goner

After our scary nightime tour of Edinburgh we ended up at Decon Brodies. The tavern is named after Edinburgh's William Brodie, whose baseness inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to write the famous classic - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It occupies a prime position at the top of the Mound in the High Street. They serve great meals at lunchtime and during the evening, so we're were told, however, the place was so packed we gave up trying to get a drink and went back to our rooms. No dress code that I could see.

Licensing laws: Time Gentlemen Please

by monkeyfeesh

In the UK, the legal drinking age is 18. There are a few qualifications to the law - if you're in a restaurant, for example, you can have a glass of wine or two with your meal if you're over the age of 14. If you're around 18, or older but look younger, it's best to have some form of recognisable ID with you. Lots of people here go drinking underage and never get ID'd (I didn't), but if you think you'll need it, take some ID. You won't get into trouble, but you won't be served. Our licencing laws are much more liberal now than they were a few years ago, so the 11pm last orders ritual of buying a lot of beer and drinking it as quickly as possible in the 15 minutes before the pubs chuck you out is now a thing of the past, or at least happens an hour or so later. Make sure you look old enough. No plastic beards though.

Talk of London Show: Dinner and Show in London

by hopang

Jermyn Street Theatre, one of the most popular dinner and show organisers in Central London, is located at Jerymn Street in London's West End. There are quite a number of Talk of London Dinner Cabaret shows in Central London to choose from. You may obtain information from the hotels where you are staying. Or you may also e-mail to the following address at Jerymn Street Theatre for more information:- info@jermynstreettheatre.co.uk. Make it a point to visit one of these cabaret dinner shows when you are having a vacation in London! This may be one of the highlights of your visit to London that you will never forget! Decent clothings, preferably with blazers or suites.

various: Ceilidhs

by Sjalen

For those of us who enjoy more than loud techno music and over dressed-up people, ceilidhs are wonderful. Mostly found in Scotland, they are gatherings at the local pub or music club with live folk music to dance to and dance you will as it is impossible to sit still to the sound of fast violins and such. Besides, the locals will drag you up before you can blink too and teach you their steps. Don't worry if you belong to those of us who think you cannot dance. No one minds that sort of stuff at a ceilidh and it is socialising over all generations. The stuff magic evenings are made of :) Whatever.

various: Clubbing

by Sjalen

I'm not giving any names since places are 'here today, gone tomorrow' in this world but London and Manchester are excellent for all music life, clubbing etc. and places like Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds and Birmingham aren't far behind. Just grab copies of their local papers to see what's hot at the moment.

The Pub

by Gili_S

Everyone knows about the pubs, I am not sure if its really matter where you go to, but always the local pub have that same atmosphere, good beer and the steak and kidney pie. It's like you never really been to the UK if you haven't visited the local pub.
