 | North Queensferry Things To Do | Tips 1 - 7 of 7 | | Popular Things To Do | Other Things To Do Tips | All Tips (7) Deep Sea World is an Aquarium about 20 minutes from Edinburgh. Here you find over 2000 species of marine life, some in smaller aquariums of different environments and some in the big tank. A long tunnel is going under the big tank in which you can see several sand tiger sharks, rays and conger eels. In the smaller aquariums you can see tropical corals and fishes, piranhas, different anemones and starfishes. If I had had a chair I could have sat in front of the aquarium with all the corals for a long time to watch all movements and colours. There are also some amphibians and reptiles. When I was visiting they were building a seal sanctuary outside the building. It looks like it’s going to be a big attraction for the summer. Deep Sea World opens at 10 a.m. and an adult ticket costs 8.25 pounds. There is a cafeteria and a souvenir shop. It is only a few minutes walk from North Queensferry train station and the way is well signed. Leave a Comment

When I was a kid we had playing cards with pictures of famous buildings and constructions. Four were of bridges and one of them was the Forth Bridge. It was nice now to see it in reality and go over it with train. The Forth Bridge is a rail bridge built in 1883 – 1890 and is considered to be an engineering marvel. More than 4500 men were working with the construction during these seven years. The bridge is 1447 metres long and over 100 metres high (the train runs almost 50 metres above the water) and about 60 000 ton of steel were used in the construction. The train station south of the bridge is Dalmeny and the train station north of the bridge is North Queensferry. Leave a Comment

Forth Road Bridge is a big suspension bridge built over Firth of Forth. It was built between 1958 – 1964 and as it was opened the car ferries ceased to operate. The towers of the bridge are over 150 meters high and the mainspan is 1008 metres long and the sidespans are each 408 metres long. It is possible to walk over the bridge (I didn't) but it is often very windy. For cars going north a toll must be paid. Leave a Comment

North Queensferry is a small place and can easily be seen by foot. When I walked around I saw there was at least one café and one hotel in the village. On the way down to the pier there is an octagonal house. The house is from 1812 and was a signal house. In old days the local dignitaries heard peoples grievances in an upper room of the building. The size of the big tank is 4.5 million litres and here many sand tiger sharks, stingrays, conger eels and other big fishes swim around. You can walk in a tunnel going through/under the tank and will then have a close view of the sharks. There is also a possibility to dive with the sharks. You must be over 16 years old, but you don’t need any experience of diving. You will get training before the dive and equipment to borrow. The price is 125 pounds (for that price two of your family members/friends can also enter Deep Sea World to be able to watch you). Leave a Comment

There has been a pier at this place for a long time. Between 1810 – 13 the town pier was rebuilt by engineer John Rennie. Where the pier begins there is a lantern tower. Be careful when you walk out on the pier as it can be very slippery. It was when I was there and I could not walk all way out because my shoes where not good. Even if the sun was shining it had been snowing heavy wet snow as I arrived to North Queensferry and the pier was still wet. Leave a Comment

While I was at Deep Sea world there were three activities. At 10.30 there was a tour behind to watch the snakes and quarantine room. The quarantine room is a room where animals are kept if they are ill or vulnerable, like infants that have to grow bigger. At 11.30 there was the feeding of a reptile, a Bearded Dragon. He ate three crickets. At 12.00 it was feeding of the smaller sharks (the rays) by two divers. Well, one diver was feeding the animals and the other looked for everything to be ok , like no big sharks too close. After feeding the divers made a few tricks. Big sharks are fed at other times.
