Guidebooks and maps

by Dabs

As we were driving through the Antrim coast, I used the Rough Guide to Ireland and Frommer's Ireland's Best-Loved Driving Tours in addition to a Michelin map of Ireland, all of which I had from our previous trip. Frommer's is good for a general overview and directions on where to turn, the Rough Guide explained the things we were seeing so I wouldn't just rely on the Frommer's driving guide.

Old Bushmills

by kathycollins

If you enjoy tipping an Irish whisky now and then, you might enjoy a stop at Old Bushmills. The tour will teach you all you ever wanted to know about making whisky, but the best part is being chosen as one of the testers - volunteer straight away when they ask - its a great chance to find out the taste differences between Irish, Scoth, and Bourbon!

a taste challenge!

if you are driving from Derry to Giant's Causeway this is a nice place to stop and strecth your legs!Built to either house the Bishop of Derry's library (or mistress, depending on which tale you listen to) this little structure enjoys a great view from the edge of a cliff over Port Stewart

Dunluce Castle

a more scenic castle is hard to imagine. Not just overlooking the cliffs - a part of the occupied castle actually went over the cliffs during a storm. Originally built in the 14th century, it has a long and colorful history. It is easy to be impressed by the strategic importance this castle must have played!

Giant's Causeway

by kathycollins

The first thing most people visit is the Giant's Causeway, a natural formation of basalt columns that look like a M.C Escher print. I like that Irish folktale version of the origins of the Causeway better than the geophysical reality - the Giant, Finn McCool built the stepping stones to visit his lady-giant friend on the Scottish island of Staffa!
