Further Afield, Belfast
There are no signs at the border telling you you are now in the North or Republic. You will recognise it from all the "Money Changed Here" signs instead! Such bureaux de changes are reputed to be backed by the IRA...
Fondest memory: here is a pic of Belfast City Hall.
Favorite thing: Northern Ireland is well-known for many things, but two of the most beautiful and spectacular must be the Mourne Mountains, in county Down, and The Giant's Causeway, in county Antrim. This photo is of one of the three platforms of the basalt columnar rock that form the Causeway. Click on the photo and view it in large scale!
Belfast International Youth Hostel offers day trips to various places around the city and the eastern part of Northern Ireland. They offer an overnight trip to the Giant's Causeway, a tour of Belfast and a tour of Carrickfergus Castle. I haven't been on any of these tours and I am only putting the information here because many people ask about day trips around Belfast.
You can learn more about these trips by going to the minicoach website.
Favorite thing: These are the ruins of Dunluce Castle, built in the 13th century. You pass them if you approach the Giant's Causeway from the west. Particularly remarkable: a storm once blew the kitchen into the sea.
the Giant cause way is amazing nataural rock formation formed by the sea crashing against the rocks.
you would almost swear some one craved the rocks and placed them all there.
the only real practical ways to get there is via a tour as i did or by hiring a car or motor bike.
Favorite thing: What a wonderful pastime! An afternoon spent fishing in a beautiful location near Newtownards, County Down. (Enlarge the photo for a beautiful view!).
Favorite thing: If you only have limited time in Northern Ireland try and fit in a tour up toward tthe giant cause way and you will not be dissapointed.the is some fab coast line to see and heaps more.
