2 different bars we tried: A couple of bars

Tinneys, just round the corner from the travelodge north of the walls is an ok place. The guidebook recommended it, but it only had a few people in it, although it was Weds night. It has a log fire which im sure is nice in winter.good guiness though.Peadars bar is very well known and has a great interior and a great atmosphere with friendly staff, love music or just good music being played. Busy most nights. you can spend hours just looking at all the unusual objects around the walls/ceiling!

Peador O'Donnells: Traditional Irish Pub with Live Music

At the suggestion of the hosts of my B&B, I ventured down to Peadar O'Donnells Bar located on Waterloo Street in the city centre. At the bar, I enjoyed a pint of Guinness -- and had a short chat with a friendly local Derry resident. There was live music scheduled to start at 10 pm, but I decided to leave before it started because I didn't want to walk back to my B&B too late at night.Since it was my first night in Derry, I had a little trouble finding my way back. After going in circles a couple of times, I stopped into a small pub (can't remember the name) and asked the bartender for directions to my B&B on Abbey Street. The bartender immediately turned to one of the guys at the bar -- and asked him to help me out. Without hesitation -- or even stopping to put on his coat -- the guy at the bar went outside with me and walked two blocks to help direct me back to my B&B. On the outside,...

Sandino's: Mixed bunch

Just quickly...can I ask why the hell VT doesn't have Pub/Bar as an "Appropriate Theme" selection? Nightclub it's not. Drinking AND Eating? No. Drinking? Yes. Live Music? Sometimes. Anyway...Sandino's was my place of choice for a sedate Sunday evening, weekend capper. I went here on other nites as well, and the place gets packed. It's pretty popular. The people behind the bar (except for the guy who didn't know how to make a purple nasty...) were quick and attentive and respectable. And, if you're looking for marijuana...you can probably find someone here who has it, because I know one guy who certainly did all the time. They played decent music most nites, and they had the upstairs for live music. Great small place to listen to a good band. Fond memories of L'derry/Derry here. Yeah right...

Clubs and bars: Going out in L'derry/Derry - Part I

There are several bars and clubs that are worth visiting during your stay in L'derry/Derry. The Metro and Downey's and Sugar and 3 of the busiest places in town during the weekend. They're all just inside the city walls by the gate closest to the Guildhall. They all attract mostly a younger crowd with some older. There's also the Linen Hall next to the Anchor Bar where it's a locals older crowd where the air smells "sweet". *wink wink* Also, check out Sandino's for a great mixed crowd and atmosphere. The upstairs part of the bar hosts some good live music performances. Definitely stop by. Stop by Jackie Mullan's during the Jazz Festival - great atmosphere. There's also the Cosmopolitan, which isn't too bad eventhough it never got very lively. The Ice Wharf is across the street from the Cosmo - stay away. The bars at DaVinci's Hotel Complex get bumping, although the DJ doesn't play the...

Pubs: Going out in L'derry/Derry - Part II

Okay, so here's my rundown on what a lot of people call the more "traditional" Irish Pubs in L'derry/Derry. You need to stop into the Clarendon Bar, Beckett's, The Gwedore, Pedar O'Donnell's, and one I'll name at the end.The Clarendon is the one I frequented most with the Irish lads from the jobsite. Friendly place and gets pretty packed with a great atmosphere. It had the second best pint of Guinness, in my opinion, in town.The Gwedore and Pedar O'Donnell's are connected. Good pints of Guinness, but these places stand out for their live traditional Irish music, which draws good crowds and better atmosphere.Beckett's is a larger place and a good time. Didn't go here much, but went there once for an OK pub quiz.Finally, for the best pint (and the best pub quiz by the way...) of the black stuff, you need to search out the Argyle Pub. It's up on the hill in the Rosemont section of town....

The Bogside Inn

You’ll find the Bogside Inn towards the end of Rossville Street, near the “You are now entering Free Derry” mural. It is a cosy little pub, decorated with a lot of old photos from Derry and from Bloody Sunday. The locals are very friendly, and it is the sort of place where you will inevitably end up chatting to someone if you hang around long enough.

Again The Strand's good, but...

Again The Strand's good, but don't forget about The Townsman Bar. You can also play pool there, there's a whole floor just with pooltables.The Strand has different floors with different kinds of music/entertainment, Townsman got the funky bar downstairs and pool tables upstairs. Just stay away from sportshoes/trainers,especially if you want to go to the nightclub.

This pub is accross the road from the travelodge, if you want to watch footy then suggest here, so many TV's. downstaires is also a nightclub, cheap drinks depending on the hour,
