Marble Arch Caves

by oneonta_ni

It's official - the caves have just been declared Northern Ireland's most popular tourist attraction! I would have said the Giant's Causeway, but there you go.These are my favourite caves. As there is a river running through them, the tour starts in a boat and you get an interesting view of the dramatically lit stalactites. Then the tour continues with a walk through different areas of the caves. I have found this tour more interesting than Mitchelstown and much less touristy than Ailwee Caves. Please note that people with asthma or breathing problems may find the climb out of the caves difficult. Also, it can be quite chilly so bring a jacket.

Devenish Monastic Site

by oneonta_ni

This a fascinating site which is not only interesting to see but fun to get to. There is a little ferry which takes foot passengers to the island on a daily basis. Once there, you have about an hour to look around, which is plenty of time. The site consists of the remains of many monastic buildings, graves, a high cross and a round tower that you can climb. It is near Enniskillen but you would be better to check with the Tourist Board to get good directions, the turn is easy to miss.

Marble Arch Caves

These are some pretty stunning and extensive limestone karst caves. They contain a river and one can take a boat road through part of the caves.

Enniskillen

by WulfstanTraveller

Enniskillen is a neat town. The downtown is attractive with old architecture, courthouse, etc., and it is pretty lively. There is a place selling good ice cream and a few good places to eat.

Another view of Devenish.
