Grant's bar and restaurant: Not bad overall

by chipper99

The good - food was above average, not the best Ive ever had but not near the worst. Most of the staff (younger ones) were friendly and polite. The decor was warm and rustic. Nice. The rest - there were ten of us and each said the same about the food, nothing amazing but satisfactory. However, nine meals were brought out within the space of one or two minutes, but the tenth member of our party had to wait ten more minutes for his steak. Everyone else was nearing the end of their main course. It was served with a small apology along the lines of "it was overlooked". We had a few rounds of drinks in the place that were all paid for when ordered but when the bill arrived we had been charged for a round that was paid, adding £30 to the bill. This was questioned and new bill brought with the £30 taken off, again with a token apology. Nice atmosphere and surroundings. Fairly friendly staff.

Grants Bar & Restaurant: Nice chips......

An 'American' themed bar/pub, with nice wooden furniture and friendly staff.Almost empty when I ate there early on a dreary Tuesday night; I'm sure it's much more popular later in the evening. The staff were friendly and courteous.I chose the 'ground steak' burger with pepper sauce, accompanied by chips and a side-salad. this was a mistake. I had not realised that 'ground steak' was, in fact, just that: beef mince compressed into a burger, no onions or other flavourings. The chips were lovely, fresh and hot. The pepper sauce was ok. The ground steak was, mostly, left on my plate. The coffee was excellent and the draught beer (Smithwicks) also excellent; a pleasant change from the Guinness and lagers I'd seen almost everywhere else I'd been.

Bar Rue: Pleasant place

by leics

A large bar/restaurant set off Omagh High Street, with tables inside and out and a reasonably-wide menu.Standard bar/pub fare: burgers, steaks, lasagne, salads and so on.I had the lasagne with a side salad. It was perfectly satisfactory, although the lasagne was a little over-cooked (over-microwaved, I suspect).Reasonably-priced, and with courteous service. No beer on tap other than Guinness and various lagers, but a range of bottle beers, wines etc are available. There is not a huge choice of places to eat in Omagh, and this one filled my gap adequately. It's part of a shopping development called 'Main Street', on the right of High street as you walk down the hill with the courthouse at your back.
