Town centre pub, a new addition to Oakham since my last visit. Comfortable place to visit with an interesting menu, not just the pub usuals, to choose from and some decent real ale and continental bottled beers as well.
Both enjoyed our meals here with a veggie treat of antipasti for Mrs B.
With herself in a wheelchair the access into the building was reasonable but, with the toilets upstairs, only a short visit here for us.
Town centre pub and an early evening visit for us. Reasonable access for Mrs B and her wheelchair with plenty of help offered by the very friendly staff and customers.
Lovely meal, Steak and ale pie for me, a real favourite, and this one very good, Mrs B equally impressed by her scampi. Great pint of Tiger ale to go with it a bonus! really enjoyed our visit here and will definately call in again next time we're in town.
Do look a little worse for wear in the photo don't I? for once the camera was lying, early evening and in charge of driving the wheelchair!
We loved this place so much we ate there twice! The restaurant is located in a all-glass atrium looking out over a beautiful flower garden. In the garden they have put a patio where you may also eat, or just sit for a cocktail.
The wine list was 10 pages long and divided by region. The menu was simple, but included some local meats and vegetables, including Rutland Trout.
The restaurant had a really good feel to it, and could be either extremely casual or extremely formal and the house was okay with either!
Favorite Dish: Everything that we ate was great, with the exception of a sirloin steak, but we have concluded that England is not the place to go for steak!
We each had a lamb dish which was superb! Also all of the appetizers and soups were great! And, of course, dessert was to die for!!!!!!
This pub is located right across the street from the Oakham Cathedral. The food is unbeatable. We even returned for a second meal-one of our cardinal no-nos - because the food was so good and each person wanted to try what another person had the first time.
Great pub atmosphere with tiny tables and over stuffed chairs. The locals bring their dogs and chat with their friends.
Favorite Dish: I had a chicken pie which was on the daily special black board.
The consensus is that this dish was the all-time favorite of the dishes that we tried at the Barnsdale Lodge.
