IF you are backpacking the best thing you can take is a backpack. A smaller backpack is always good for day trips and walking around. If you are planning on hiking or doing a lot of walking...One of the best things you can get are very good walking shoes...Waterproof Jacket...and an umbrella if you feel the need to carry one around..but it could end up being a pain. Nope...Great Britain has everythign you need! The film can be quite expensive..so you may want to bring your own from home. Depending on when you go...Light pants...and sweaters are always good....But if you feel you need something you can always buy it in the U.K.

Don´t bring too much stuff, you can always buy the necessary things on the spot. Leave enough room in your bag so you can do a little shopping :-) Bring comfortable shoes! That´s the most important item you should bring! You can find just about anything you need in their farmacys. Bring a lot of money!

A nice, big, rolling bag will work. Not a suitcase, but... the canvas bags on wheels with the pully handles. lol. not making a very clear description here... I could NOT have survived without my scarf and umbrella. The weather was fairly unpredictable- gloves or mittens also help when the wind is a bit nippy. Common up in Edinburgh. Can't think of anything- but beware of the voltage difference. Sometime, convertors fail. We nearly burned down our hotel in London trying to work a hairdryer! A simple camera works well- panoramic if you can! Before going on the trip, you may want to learn of the fashion styles of the area. I stuck to simple black and gray, and fit in well with the crowd. This way, you don't attract any uneccesary attention and can pass easily as a 'native'.

Kendall's Mintcake. The package says: Romney;s Kendal Mint Cake was carried to the summit of Moutn Everest on 29th May 1953.'We sat on the snow and looked at the country far below us...we nibbled Kendal Mint Cake'.A member of the successful Everest Expedition wrote:'It was easily the most popular item on our high altitude ration- our only criticism was that we did not have enough of it.'

The weather changes fast, so you should probably prepare the occasional bit of sun in winter, and also bring a light coat in summer. You can pretty much get anything I can think of here. Apparently pain-killers you get in the US are a lot better though, so if you're coming from there you could bring some. Its not that the painkillers here are bad or don't work, its just I've heard the American ones will almost never let you feel pain again! A showerproof camera!

Pack a sturdy backpack, and a suitcase. I always end up packing too much clothes! Britain is quite rainy in some places, so bring your umbrella/raincoat. Waterproof boots are a nice idea, I always wear my combat boots:). As a Scandinavian traveller, I'm soooo happy that British winters (at least in the south) aren't really cold, so no need for padded down jackets/parkas here, a long warm coat is enough to keep the cold away.

Ok, when visiting Whitby, the following is advisable:1) A light Raincoat, as from time to time we seem to have Rain while it is also bright & Sunny.2) Avoid Open toed Footwear, as there are often a few Dogs turds on the pavement + I've seen broken bottles / glass things layed on the pavement for weeks until the Council sweep it up. Any old 35mm jobbie is usually adequate. For visiting Whitby area, I also suggest bringing your Fishing Tackle:Spinning Rod, 10lb Line & Mackerel Spinners for the Pier;Boat fishing Equipment suitable for Cod (biggest caught here was over 58lb, I think).River Esk, Ruswarp: Spinning / FlyFishing gear for Salmon, Sea Trout, Trout (Brownies), Grayling & Eels.Scaling Dam Reservoir: Fly Fishing / Worm Fishing equipment for Brown & Rainbow Trout.

good walking shoes, loads of walking, either shopping or sightseeing. a waterproof we get quite a lot of rain. the only beach ware will be for the indoor pools, sometimes you may beable to swim in the sea if you are hardy!

Nothing special required. I have made myself an adaptor plug for the English wall-sockets so I can use my battery charger for the video camera. It comes in handy! Photo taken near Exeter in Devon, another very nice place that we have visited on occasion as we are passing through on the way to Truro (see what I mean about no shoulders on the roads?).

One suitcase and a backpack. Doc Martens (cos it's constantly raining), leather jacket cos it was freezing, a beanie, sweaters, hoodies, gloves, etc. and believe it or not, i wore all of that at once in Newcastle during December and my hands were still blue! Just a happy snap camera cos having something that's fully manual isn't good cos if you're on your own and want someone to take a photo of you somewhere, not everyone knows how to focus and use manual cameras. Too cold to go camping or see the beach. there's a book called THE A - Z GUIDE TO LONDON or something similar to that. Ths book is EXCELLENT! it's one huge map and if you have this book, i guarentee that you will NEVER get lost. An excellent resource. Don't know the price because i borrowed mine off a friend but never fear because it's sold all over London.
