i went during the winter and took a backpack and a suitcase. the suitcase became a pain in the neck so i was glad i was travelling around by car everywhere. WINTERClothing: you can never take enough socks, gloves, beanies, etc. The higher up i went, the colder it got. i remember Newcastle being absolutel freezing and the sun was shining. Shoes: Doc Martin Boots and Converse Chuck Taylors. i just took a happy snap camera. I found this to be perfect because I was alone in a lot of the tourist bits so getting someone else to take a photo of you as you sit on the lions in trafalgar square is a lot easier when you have a camera that works simply by pushing a button. This eliminates any hassles of people who have no idea how to focus a manual camera. A video camera. They're always fun and it's living proof that you were there when your friends don't believe you.

I'm a total convert to the idea of backpacks (rucksacks). Little wheelie cases generally don't cut it in the UK - there's too many stairs. The smaller the pack the better - if you get a big one, you'll usually succeed in filling it, and then you have to carry it! Strong, comfortable, WATERPROOF shoes/ boots. If you feel like carrying them, bring your trainers, but they're not as useful as you think.Take a waterproof jacket or similar because it often rains (especially in Scotland). It doesn't rain as much as people think, but it does do it regularly.Anywhere that has cobbled streets (ie Edinburgh) is a bit of a challenge in heels - but it can be pretty funny.

Do not forget: several warm jackets and umbrellas.I didn't, and I got to dress several sweaters one over the others and even so I was cold. The umbrella I took broken with the strong wind and I brought another. I took my bikini with me, because I read that Southport is 'the most important seaside resort of Europe', but obviously it didn't leave the bag.

Suitcase/Holdall Appropriate clothing for any weather and remember your umberella!Don,t be put off we do get some good weather and the sights are well worth standing in the rain for. You will be able to aquire anything at chemists in the UK. There shouldn't be any problems.

Pack light and carry a hand bag. Since London is somewhat of a fashion capital, dress smartly. People are very well dressed and trendy. But generally, khakis and a nice shirt is good in the summer and in the winter, a nice coat and a hat is preferred.

Bring sturdy luggage!! You will have to be able to carry the luggage up and down stairs yourself, as there are not ramps everywhere, especially in the London Underground...and if one of those huge escalators is broken!!! you will have quite a chore. I took a wheeled suitcase, small, and a matching travel bag. I had an extra bag for trinkets etc to bring home. When I got to the last day..I was exhausted from lugging my bags around......SO..what they say is right...put out what you think you will need and cut that in half, then pack and make do with what you have!! I recommend, for women, 2 pr slacks, one or 2 skirts, light jacket, sweater, heavy jacket--like gortex, good walking shoes, ie runners, and a pr of comfortable dressier shoes. Always wear your shoes before you travel, to avoid blisters with new shoes. I took shorts but never wore them...I borrowed a housecoat from where ever I...

an umberella is a must! Do not need to bring anything as everything you could possibly require is readily available Everything readily available cold at night so plenty of warm clothes to sleep in. Wear lots of layers so that they can be discarded as there can be a varying degree in the temperatures during one day. Walking boots and thick socks and a packet of plasters!

The Snowdon range is hardly a very large range, so you're reasonably safe from getting stuck in the middle of it by night time. Therefore, two backpacks are a good solution, a big one for carrying all your clothes etc to be left in the hostel, and a second smaller one (say 40l) to take to the mountains. Even in winter, chances are you're going to get wet. Really wet. So really waterproof gear is essential (get that Gore-Tex to use!) It's always useful to have some medical supplies when going up any mountain, but with an army helicopter regularly checking for distressed climbers (weather permitting obviously), you hardly need to take a whole pharmacy up the mountains. There are some camera shops around Llanberis, so no need to bring 10 packs of batteries and 100 films. Prices are a bit pushed but still acceptable.

When travelling about the West Country it would be a good idea to take either good walking boots or good quality trainers, wear Jeans or similar trousers and take a light jacket and an umbrella as the British weather is so unpredictable.

Depends on how you are travelling, but suitcases or rucksacks are fine, but we dont have a lot of porters anymore and you will be expected to carry your own stuff. Airports have luggage carriers though :-) The UK can vary in temprature but in Summer tops and shorts are fine in winter good warm clothing. BUT!! no matter what time of year, keep you eye on the weather forcasts and get an Umbrella, :-) it can appear even on a nice sunny day. Just use good common sense and you cant go far wrong. You can buy everything you need in the UK , but make sure you have enough prescriprion drugs with you to last, if you do not belong to the EU as Medical costs are high and a lot of meds cant be bought over the counter, if you are not sure go to http://www.wellbeing.com/atp/index.jsp they have a lot of info there. The UK can deal with any of your Photographic needs it may be a little more expensive...
