Pevensey Castle

Pevensey Castle, Pevensey

zadunajska8 Says:  Four times beseiged but never breached. The outer walls of Pevensey Castle date back to Roman times and it is surprising just how much of these walls are still left really when you consider the age and the four sieges that the castle withstood during the medieval era. The...

Going on a Ghost Walk

Going on a Ghost Walk, Pevensey

Mariajoy Says:  Every Saturday night, whatever the weather, for 51 weeks of the year except the first one after Christmas, you can meet Mr Slater at 7.30 in Pevensey Castle Car Park for a guided ghost walk! He lights the lantern at dusk and takes who ever turns up on a walk around the...

Visit the first Norman

Visit the first Norman, Pevensey

planxty Says:  Norman churches abound all over the UK, but the one in Westham (which is adjacent to Pevensey) is apparently the first, built in 1080. Although the sign exhorts you to come and visit it, when I went it was shut! It seems it's only open at service times. It is, however, an...

Nice old Hotel.

Nice old Hotel., Pevensey

planxty Says:  Although, this place is predominantly an hotel and restaurant, I popped in there for a quick drink. It really is an amazing old half-timbered building dating to the 17th century. The bar at the rear of the building is an absolute treasure, very "Olde Worlde" as you would...

Brilliant little museum.

Priory Court Hotel: Pevensey Pub Food, Pevensey

Mariajoy Says:  This typical 17th Century country pub is built on the site of the old Priory opposite the Roman walls of Pevensey Castle. Food is served in the pub as well as the restaurant section without prior bookings necessary. There is an old fireplace which wasn't lit when we were...

Smugglers Inn, Pevensay.: Great pub food, Pevensey

planxty Says:  This is yet another English country pub serving good quality food. The pub itself dates to the 16th century and is all timber beams and the like. There is also a large garden area, and one particular armchair that, once sat down on, is almost impossible to get out of!The food...

The Fish and chip on High..., Pevensey

Eilian Says:  The Fish and chip on High street. I love fish & chip. I suggest you take it out to the castle near by and eat it on the hill, inside the walls. Enormous portion! Well, they may be cooking other things, but the fish and ship is nice.
