Well, France ain't far...: You have money left to eat?

by Fleur_D

Seriously, although there is good food in the UK, like there is anywhere, it isn't a gourmet's destination. That said, the Indian food can be spectacular. The chocolate is also very good.Traditional British seafood, and regional specialties such as haggis, tatties and neeps (Scotland) are of course worth a try.And some ODDITIES, such as hedgehog-flavoured crisps.

The Rising Sun: Local Cornish Food

by Geoff_Wright

The photo here is of a plate of Cornish Pasties, that were made for my son Jaymes' 18th birthday. Don't they look delicious? And they were! The Cornish PastyRight then, having been viewing other traveller's culinary delights I had to add something about the famous Cornish Pasty! How could I have left that off the menu?? This is a warning, and should perhaps come under the heading of Tourist Traps The real Cornish Pasty goes right back to the time of the great Cornish miners of 1700's and perhaps before. The Pasty was part savoury (meat and veg) and part sweet. Nowadays pasties are of various varieties and types of pastry. The only ones I remember and would call real Cornish Pasties are the ones my aunties used to make on the farms where I used to stay. These would consist of chunks of meat, not minced up like today's, and vegetables, within a shortcrust pastry wrapping. Don't be fobbed...

The Rising Sun Inn: My Local Public House

by Geoff_Wright

Not exactly a restaurant, but a jolly good English country pub, in Cornwall, naturally! The Rising Sun is my local pub, only about 10 minutes walk from home. They sell loads of traditional ales, and do really great meals too. It you are passing through Cornwall, just drop in and say 'Hi' to Jim and Dot, from New ZealandThe pub also has good accommodation at reasonable rates, and a field adjacent for campers and caravanners. The pub is surrounded by beautiful Cornish countryside, and no other houses r>

Wong Kei's: How many? Ready to order? Fork? Fork?

by reon80

This is an ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS and incredibly popular and busy Chinese restaurant located in Leicester Square. It's a really tall building, so when you walk in, they say "How many?" and you better be ready to answer, because they are so busy they don't like to wait. Then they will tell you to go upstairs or downstairs and you just keep going until they tell you to stop! You are seated at tables with lots of other people and are expected to pick what you want to eat really quickly (I recommend the Sweet & Sour Chicken with Rice, it is AMAZING). They make fantastic food here and you will definitely want to go back. Plus, it's really cheap and a total experience in itself! Everyone should try Wong Kei's at least once!

Muffinski's: Low fat AND yummy!

by reon80

Muffinski's this great frozen yogurt shop in Covent Garder, right off the little plaza part! It's best to go on a Sunday and then take your yogurt and sit on the street to watch the street performers and musicians! Any kind of yogurt! They make it right there for you with real fruit in this really neat machine that looks like an apple press! Fun!!!

The Stockpot: Better Than Fast Food

by Goner

The Stockpot was a Frommer's recommendation and a good one. It's not fancy, remined me of a neighborhood cafe in the US. Since I'm a budget traveler this was a good find. Here you can get a wholesome meal and it's just plain good. They have a large selection of food and really good tea. The Shepards Pie tasted like homemade.

HMS Ganges: A Pub Visit!

by Bwana_Brown

I have lots of favourite restaurants in England! On our drive down from London, we took the A31/A35 coastal route along the English Channel. We had a great pub lunch along Lyme Bay at Seaton for only 7 pounds. While visiting in Cornwall we have also enjoyed some fancier meals out - noteably at the Pandora Inn (Restronguet Passage) and HMS Ganges (Mylor Harbour near Falmouth). I am a simple guy and actually like a good pub meal of either the Ploughman's Lunch or an Indian Curry concoction of some kind! With a couple of pints of course!

No favourite restaurant but try...

by margaretvn

No favorite restaurant but try a pub for a good and not too expensive lunch. I love a 'ploughmans' for lunch - it varies from pub to pub but usually is made up of french bread, cheeses, an apple a little bit of salad and pickle.Sometimes you can get it with pate or smoked fish.

Gordon Ramsey Restaurant: Gordon Ramsey Restaurant

by wrldtravler

You are bound to see someone famous here. Stuffed Ravioli with Fresh Frog Meat. Just kidding, but it is on the menu, i usually just have a lamb dish. But if you want you can try the Frog Ravioli and tell me about it

Pizza Express/Bella Pasta: Quick pasta and pizza

by tvor

Two restaurants, Bella Pasta and Pizza Express are franchises of pizza and pasta restaurants around the UK. Both have a good variety on the menu and the pizza has always been hot and delicious with fresh toppings. I recommend either.
