I'm serious. If you thought life threatening quick sands were a thing of steamy jungle, think again. The banks of the river Nith, as they approach the Solway Firth can be treacherous for the unwary... there are warnings about the quick sands posted all over the place, but we still manage to lose a few birdwatchers and tourists along the way.
Even without the aid of the quicsand.. the river Nith has claimed its fair share of victims:
"Here lies poor Thompson, all alone,
As dead and cold as any stone.
In wading in the river Nith,
He took a cold, which stopp'd his breath.
he fished the stream for ten years past,
Death caught him in his net at last."
This epitaph is written on a tombstone in a Dumfries cemetry!
Dumfries has three local clubs, all of shich equally bad, if you like dancing to anything apart from rave you should probably stay away - the queues are always ridiculously long to get into which ever place you want to get into or the other ones are dead with sticky carpets! For an indication of this the tag line for one of the clubs in "Chancers for Dancers and Hopeless Romancers" oh dear!!
