This was a road we didn't know so on our way back from Kirkcudbright, we decided to travel it and see if there was anywhere we could park up for the night.
It's a lovely route out of Langholm, an unclassified road that heads over to Newcastleton in the Borders. The first part is quite steep with good views back towards Langholm. Once we reached the top, we were rewarded with great views over the fells for miles. There is a bit of a parking area just over the cattle grid but this was occupied, so we pressed on down a little and found somewhere to stop for lunch. By this time, the weather had taken a turn for the better and had become hot. We decided that if there was anywhere a bit more off the road, we would spend the rest of the afternoon and night there. A little further on, there was a decent sized grassy area that we pulled into. Our views were not down into the valley but across the moorland but it was peaceful enough.
We spent a hot afternoon enjoying the weather and doing nothing. We were joined by a few sheep who came down to the stream to drink.
After a peaceful night, we pressed on down into Newcastleton, thinking what a lovely route this had been.
