Old Course Hotel, St Andrews: Afternoon Tea overlooking the home of golf

    by Flying.Scotsman Written Mar 6, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For our 42nd wedding anniversary I took Mrs Flying.Scotsman to the Old Course Hotel for afternoon tea. We had tea in the 4th floor Road Hole Bar overlooking the Old Course. A choice of teas or coffee was accompanied by a 3 tier tray of finger sandwiches , scones and cakes. At £19 per person this isn't where you'd go for a quick cuppa, but it is reasonable value when you take into account the location, service and the quality of scones, cakes, and sandwiches - especially the smoked salmon! And if you can't finish everything, they gladly put leftovers in a cake box and tie it up with a tartan ribbon.

PS They also do a champagne tea for a special occasion

Biscuit Cafe, Culross: Excellent coffee, cakes and light lunches

    by Flying.Scotsman Updated Nov 18, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

An excellent coffee house upstairs and behind the Culross Pottery, tucked away near the Culross Palace garden. In fact, much of the produce used comes from the garden as well as various local suppliers. The atmosphere is brilliant; very friendly staff in a conservatory room with outdoor tables, weather permitting. The soups are home made and delicious. Cakes and locally roasted coffee are a specialty. Although the selection is limited, the quality is superb.

The Stag Inn: A pleasant stop in Falkland

by trvlrtom Written Sep 13, 2006

The Stag Inn is a great stop in Falkland. The old building faces a green park, so you can have your pint either within the timbered walls or on the benches in the open air.
