The Highland games are a cross between county fair and national sports competition. There are highland dancing exhibitions and competitions, races, track and field events and of course more bagpipes than your typical American will see in a lifetime!
As you can tell from this photo, if you are not wearing a skirt (the locals call them kilts), you are not allowed to be in the fashion review. The man in the blue pants with the white shirt was not even offered the comfort of an anonymous retreat from the exhibition, but was forced to retire from the show in the full view of all the reviewers.
Have you ever wondered what Santa Claus does for the other 364 days of the year? It would appear that he spends it travelling from place to place picking up rubbish with his pointed walking stick.
Of course one can't let Santa do all the work himself, so the mayor and the local royalty have joined Santa in his "Beautify the Highlands" campaign.
And what small town event is complete without the local marching band playing some uplifting and inspiring songs to get everyone in the spirt to pitch in and clean up the Highlands?
