Avoid the museums
It is supposed you had come by bus cause you are in a budget.First of all don't go down to the Umquhart Castle to take a picture.Go up the road a little and the scenery is perhaps better.Second tip:Instead of visiting the museums go to walk by one of a number of paths around the lake. There are giant Caledonian pines and allways beautiful views far from the crowdy and loudy area for tourists.
Loch Ness Exhibition
The shores of Loch Ness have two exhibitions, or museums whichever way you look at it. Thay have displays, a cinema and lots of things to buy. Obviously they cater unashamedly to the tourist market, but then again why are we there!
Unique Suggestions: Buy a plastic nessie
Fun Alternatives: Drive on!
- Sailing and Boating
- Historical Travel
Loch ness museum
To my opinion this place is a big tourist trap.
The movies is a little bit boring and we left in the middle of the movies to enjoy the lake.
Unique Suggestions: Buy a nessie doll
Fun Alternatives: Leave the museum and go to see the lake
All of it
Let's face it, the whole thing is probably a con. We like to pretend that there is some prehistoric something-or other, left over from the Cretacious era in the Loch...well no chance of that, the Loch is only a few thousand years old and the Great Glen faultline was not open to the sea 65 million years ago. There are two separate, very expensive exhibitions at Drumnadrochit to go with the expensive boat trips. One half convinces you that it's all true and the other convinces you it isn't. £25-30 can vanish almost without you noticing, without leaving the feeling that it was all really worth it.
Unique Suggestions: Well, do as I did and take a boat...just to say you've done it. Urquhart castle is worth a look too.
Fun Alternatives: Just enjoy the scenery and keep a camera handy just in case.
