    Plockton Inn: Superb seafood

    by travelmad478 Written Dec 21, 2003

My B&B owners directed me to the Plockton Inn (not to be confused with the Plockton Hotel around the corner) to get some great food. I had a piece of skate wing in brown butter that I am still remembering fondly to this day.

The food was very good but the service was amazing. We wandered through town and belatedly decided we were hungry so walked into the hotel restaurant. We were looking around trying to decide where to sit and a waitress came over and told us a tour bus was arriving momentarily but that if we could decide what we wanted pretty quickly, she would see we were served in good time.

We quickly grabbed a seat in the bar by a window looking over the loch and ordered. Not two seconds later the tour group arrived. They were all set up in another room but there were a lot of them. Their food was already prepared; they had no choices, but true to her word, our friendly waitress got our meal on the table in jig time. We had a leisurely meal looking out over the lake and particularly enjoyed the quiet when the tour group left. All the locals were in the bar and that was fun too.

Favorite Dish: They offer fresh (really fresh!) seafood and also excellent Scot beef and game. Here's my journal entry for the lunch.

"We stopped at the Plockton Hotel Restaurant and got a bar table with a harbor view. We got a gratinéed fish bake that was excellent and shared a starter of “smokies” we loved. Ed got whiskey ice cream and I got a whiskey-pecan tart for dessert . . . really good!"

Off The Rails: too many choices

Luckily the Proprietors are not like the title.
A great little restaurant, at the top of the village, just as you enter Plockton, under the railway bridge. Still a working line too, so you can watch the train go by while you eat.
They serve all sorts of food including local fresh seafood, vegetarian meals, poultry and game.
Also do coffees and baking during the day.
    Check out www.off-the-rails.co.uk

Favorite Dish: my favourite dish has been Cullen Skink. A smoked haddock and potato soup. Very creamy, and very filling, so if you are planning on having a big meal, starve yourself before hand!!

The fish and chip shop in Plockton is where we ate for 80% of our stay the other place was the Shores great food pricey but worth it for a treat. The chip shop is a small kiosk at the centre of Plockton called The Harbour Fish Bar.We had really fresh fish real chips Freshly made Pizza with real fresh herbs. Its so nice we just couldn't resist snacking there during the day coffees & whipped Ice cream.Only downside is the queue at peak times.thoroughly reccommend a stay in Plockton
even without the eateries its a great place to holiday. We will be back.

Favorite Dish: Harbour fish Bar : Fish & chips really fresh all the time
Plockton shores: Great steaks an prawns

by littlebush Written Aug 28, 2011

On the main street, this pub/hotel has a great restaurant and is well priced.

    it was packed in summer.

its got a pub grub menu but also some more decent fancy restaurant type meals.

i had some chicken which had a great tomato sauce and potatoes.

for 2 of us incl a starter to share and 2 non alcohol drinks it was £29-good value.
