I was there during the Deer Rut and I also coudn't belive I succeeded in walking almost 30 km in two days: for two following days I and my heavy (about 11 kg of photographic equipment) walked the about 8 km from the Village to the otehr side of the Isle and back to photograph the annual red deer rut.

  • Kinloch Castle

    by hongkong88 Written Nov 30, 2011

Kinlock castle was built in 1900 and has no particular historical significance. It was built as a hunting "lodge" for a Victorian millionaire. It is huge and filled with technological curiosities of the time and a lot of dusty furniture and old deer heads. Each of the heads is dutifully marked with who shot it and when. The amazing part to me is our guide actually slept in the place alone one night. There is a hostel and staff rooms in the back but you wouldn't catch me staying in the old pile alone. It was a nice walk from the small harbor to the castle. Despite the efforts of the turn of the century hunters there are still a lot of deer roaming the island.

This is the only shop of the village and it opens "most evenings" from 17:00 to 1900 but it has a wide range of groceries and kindness is included!

And it's also the local Post Office!
