A stopover at the famous CAITHNESS GLASS FACTORY at PERTH proved to be very fruitful for me. I managed to buy a very special piece (engraved & personalised) for my cousin, Irene's wedding.
The Caithness Glass Story:
* Opened its first factory in Wick in 1961.
* Regarded as one of the foremost makers of handmade glass & introduced engraved glassware in 1968.
* First paperweights produced in 1969. Developed innovative techniques for abstract designs using traditional methods of millefiori & lampwork in the same year.
* Caithness Glass Paperweight Collectors Society - founded in 1976 by Colin Terris, the genius behind Caithness paperweights. For more information, please write to: Caithness Glass Ltd, Inveralmond Perth, Scotland PH1 3TZ or 141 Lanza Avenue, Building 12, Garfield, NJ07026 in the U.S.A.
They arrange really great one day (or more)tours to the Highlands, Stirling Castle etc. Take any of those and you´ll see the countryside.
It´s so beautiful. You can almost hear someone playing the bagpipe in the fog rising from the highlands...
Scotland has so much History, I can't remember everything that I heard but it's so interesting when you find a good guide.
