The Filling Station: The Place to Miss

by maclean Written Jan 4, 2008

Upon entering the Restaurant Bar it immediately reminded me of Chicago's in Frankfurt am Main and I thought great.
I waited for an eternity for a waiter to come and seat me and then just over 10 minutes to order my food (A classic Burger and a Coffee). The Burger came within minutes and was cold (the plate was as was the fries and the burger - The only hot thing was the coffee, which was slipped onto my table without so much as how is the food. I then ordered the bill to be given the surprise that the food was actually much cheaper than the menu stated (lunchtime special - still was not worth the £4.95) so I duly paid the bill (£6.55 Total) and put down a £10 note - to which the waiter asked if I would be requiring change.
Rude, Slow and never to be seen again

This restaurant has a bit of everything when it comes to food. It also has a great athmosphere and you will meet a lot of different nationalities there. Good food, not too pricy like a lot of the other Restaurants on the Royal Mile and very friendly waiters.

The Filling Station: Not an authentic American Diner

Dont let the beautiful fasad of the High Street branch fool you - The Filling Station is an american type diner that serves burgers, fajitas, pizza and beer, nothing more. There's not that much to say than that food is ok but some dishes are over-priced. However portions are large to make up for the price - so it's not called the Filling Station for nothing. Lunch deals are ok but then food portions becomes lot smaller too so bread or a salad on the side is recommended.

    Children's menu available.

Favorite Dish: Lunch deal pasta with salad and bread.

A few days ago we visited Edinburgh for a short trip and ended up having our dinner here. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was excellent.

Although it was a large room, there wouldn't have been more space for another table to be squeezed in. Still you didn't feel 'invaded' by your 'neighbours' and it was still possible to hold a decent conversation without shouting.

Prices weren't too bad given the location (on the Royal Mile), having spent approx £21 for 2 burgers and 2 pints of cider.

Favorite Dish: We both had Burgers with mushrooms and mozzarella, served with chips and salad, and they were really nice - and big portions. Sadly we didn't have enough space left to try the deserts... :(

I love the decor of the place & the atmosphere especially at festival time when they have tables outside as well.

Favorite Dish: Well I mostly went there for the great cocktails especially the Peaches & Cream but the food was great too.
