Edinburgh International Festival
The Edinburgh International Festival, held each year in mid-August, is the world's largest, most important arts festival. It's said every bed within 50 miles of Edinburgh is full during the festival!! Should have fun there.
I would have to say for this a must see activity in Edinburgh would have to be seeing the Edinburgh festival. There is a real buzz about Edinburgh during the festival and is a very busy time for Edinburgh folk!
Check out the comedy acts at the festival - quite often you will see people here and a couple of years later they have made it big and are on TV and then you can say 'I saw such and such when they were a nobody' ha ha.
if you happen to be in edinburgh sometime in august, make sure to inquire about the goings on at the edinburgh international festival/ and the fringe festival... both the festivals have been around for over half a century, and are among the worlds most important arts festivals. hundreds of amateur and professional participants have performances in venues all over town.... not to be missed!
Try to arrange your visit during the month of September cos that's the time when the Edinburgh Arts Festival will be held. The population of the city usually swells to double it's size during this period! So you can imagine how robust the atmosphere of the city will be!
Bored - nothing to do? Yes wander around the top half of the Royal Mile and you will see buskers and other street entertainers. All good fun, but watch out for pickpockets!
If you are here during the Edinburgh Festival (August) you can just wander around The Mound and High Street and watch the street performers
LOADS happens in the city at this time of year. Santa runs, Carol Services, lights being turned on, Christmas Markets, the Gardens Winter Wonderland with the ice rink and ferris wheel......
In August, the city also holds a military festival called the Tatoo.
If you want to go there, you'll need to take tickets early, don't wait until you get there, you won't find them.
Theater in the streets of the city.
The alteranative festival, but organizated as well as the official one.
