What to buy: The kids from the local elementary school sold their own brochure on Fair Isle. This booklet was compiled by the Fair Isle Primary School children and Bird Observatory staff during 2002 and published in 2003.
What a fantastic brochure:
it has all the important information in it, starting from statistics, living on Fair Isle, information on the bird observatory on to the description of flowers, birds and mammals to be found here.
Each one of the 12 school children had a specific topic to research on and wrote and illustrated one chapter.
A most enjoyable souvenir of Fair Isle!
What to pay: In 2005 I paid 3 GBP - very well spent in my opinion!

While looking around the stalls on that little exhibition I found a couple of really nice postcards. They even sold stamps, so I knew what I was going to do!
The lady who sold the cards offered to post the cards later on and for sure my loved ones received them after a few days! What a great souvenir from Britains most remote inhabited island (with a letter box...)!

When we arrived on Fair Isle, we were welcomed by a lady who invited us to the town hall. We were offered some coffee or tea and some delicious cookies and cakes and everyone on the island who had something to exhibit, exhibited it there: jewellery, knitwear, postcards - the most beautiful local crafts.
I am not sure if they set up this kind of "trade fair" every time a cruise ship is near, but it sure was a wonderful gesture and atmosphere!
Thanks, folks of Fair Isle!!
