Ice cream at Renaldo's
Favorite thing: Renaldo's is next door to the Wellington (so you don't have to go far for desert!).
They describe themselves as 'Old Fasioned Italian Ice Cream'. 22 flavours, 90p a cone.
They also have a large selection of rock, gifts and souveniers.

Favorite thing: Ayrshire is proud of its association with Robert Burns, Scotlands bard, who was born in Alloway. In the centre of Ayr is this statue of him in the middle of "Burns Statue Square"!! Even the local pubs pay homage to him with names like "Rabbies", "The Tam O'Shanter Inn" and "The Honest Man", the last in reference to one of his poems that states that Ayr is "unsurpassed for honest men and bonnie lassies".
Most of the sites associated with Burns are in Alloway [see the Burns Country travelogue] but there are a couple of other sites around Ayrshire - Souter Johnnies Cottage in the village of Kirkoswald as well as associations with Tarbolton and Mauchline..
"Burns Night" in honour of the poet is held on 25th January every year

Favorite thing: You can also still see some of the buildings and areas associated with Burns such as the two bridges [the Auld Brig and New Bridge] that featured in his poem "Twa Brigs". The Auld Brig dates from the 15th century although it was restored in 1910 and is now pedestrianised.
And if you don't want to sound like a tourist, or be met by blank looks, don't refer to him as Bobby Burns under any circumstances. Or even Robbie for that matter! Its Robert or Rabbie :)
